That Petrol Emotion
That Petrol Emotion were a London-based Northern Ireland-originating band with an American vocalist, Steve Mack. It featured the O'Neill brothers from celebrated Derry pop-punk band The Undertones plus ex-members of fellow Derry bands Bam Bam and The Calling and The Corner Boys. They recorded five albums between 1986 and 1994, exploring an eclectic fusion of alternative rock, post-punk, garage rock and dance music (including sampling) which in part anticipated and overlapped with the dance-pop era of the 1990s. Following a 14-year break, the band reunited in 2008 for various dates, tours and festival appearances before returning to hiatus in 2010. Four members of the band went on to form The Everlasting Yeah. ''Manic Pop Thrill'' is the debut studio album by Irish indie rock band That Petrol Emotion. It was released in 1986, through record label Demon. Two singles were released from the album: "It's a Good Thing" and "Natural Kind of Joy". Release and reception ''Manic Pop Thrill'' reached No. 84 in the UK Albums Chart. AllMusic called ''Manic Pop Thrill'' "an inspired debut". Track listing 13-15 were also bonus tracks on the original 1986 Demon CD release. One edition of the Demon LP included the "It's a Good Thing" 12" single (c/w "The Deadbeat" and "Mine") as a bonus record, complete with picture sleeve. John O'Neill (guitarist)
John Joseph O'Neill (born 26 August 1957) is a musician who is the rhythm guitarist and principal songwriter of the punk rock/ new wave band The Undertones. O'Neill, along with his younger brother Vincent and friends Feargal Sharkey, Michael Bradley and Billy Doherty, founded The Undertones in 1975, although Vincent O'Neill was replaced the following year with his younger brother Damian O'Neill, who became the band's lead guitarist. John O'Neill wrote the majority of the band's singles and a number of album tracks (occasionally collaborating with his brother Damian or Michael Bradley). Undertones songs written by John O'Neill include the singles "Teenage Kicks", " Jimmy Jimmy", " Here Comes The Summer" and " You've Got My Number", and such notable album tracks as "When Saturday Comes" and "You're Welcome". Stephen Damian O'Neill (born 15 January 1961) is the lead guitarist in the pop-punk band, The Undertones. He joined the band following the departure of his older brother, Vincent, in 1976, and remained with the band until their break up in 1983. O'Neill wrote several album tracks and singles during the career of The Undertones, usually writing with bassist Michael Bradley. After the Undertones split in 1983, Damian O'Neill formed That Petrol Emotion with his guitarist brother, John O'Neill. The Undertones reformed in 1999 and O'Neill continues to perform and record with them.
