Istanbul (board Game)
''Istanbul'' is a Euro-style board game designed by Rüdiger Dorn and illustrated by Andreas Resch and Hans-Georg Schneider, published in 2014 by Pegasus Spiele. ''Istanbul'' won the Kennerspiel des Jahres award in 2014. An expansion, ''Istanbul: Mocha & Baksheesh'', which includes coffee, guild halls and taverns, was released in 2015. The expansion ''Istanbul: Letters & Seals'', which has players delivering letters and may be integrated with the other expansion, was released in 2016. Gameplay The players move a merchant and his four assistants through the bazaar in Istanbul. At various locations, you can leave assistants to handle specific tasks and you need to pick them up again, once finished. Hence careful planning of the allocation of your assistants is needed. During the game, the merchant pushes a wheelbarrow of increasable size and acquires special abilities, but most importantly buys and sells goods in order to be the first one to acquire five rubies. Rüdiger Dorn
Rüdiger Dorn (born 1969) is a German-style board game designer who is married and has three children. He lives in Pfofeld near Nuremberg. Career Fantasy Flight Games published Rüdiger Dorn's fantasy-themed ''Dragonheart'' (2010). He was nominated for the 2005 Spiel des Jahres award for his game ''Jambo (card game), Jambo'', which also placed 8th for the Deutscher Spiele Preis award. He was also nominated for the 2007 Spiel des Jahres award for his game ''Die Baumeister von Arkadia (board game), Die Baumeister von Arkadia'' (released in English as simply ''Arkadia'') and in 2012 for Las Vegas. He also won the 2014 Kennerspiel des Jahres award for his game ''Istanbul (board game), Istanbul''. Pegasus Spiele
Pegasus (; ) is a winged horse in Greek mythology, usually depicted as a white stallion. He was sired by Poseidon, in his role as horse-god, and foaled by the Gorgon Medusa. Pegasus was the brother of Chrysaor, both born from Medusa's blood when their mother was decapitated by Perseus. Greco-Roman poets wrote about his ascent to heaven after his birth and his obeisance to Zeus, who instructed him to bring lightning and thunder from Olympus. Pegasus is the creator of Hippocrene, the fountain on Mount Helicon. He was captured by the Greek hero Bellerophon, near the fountain Peirene, with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Kennerspiel Des Jahres
The Spiel des Jahres (, 'Game of the Year') is an award for board and card games, created in 1978 with the purpose of rewarding family-friendly game design, and promoting excellent games in the German market. It is thought that the existence and popularity of the award was one of the major drivers of the quality of games coming out of Germany, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. A ''Spiel des Jahres'' nomination can increase the typical sales of a game from 500–3,000 copies to around 10,000, and the winner can usually expect to sell as many as 500,000 copies. Broom Service (board Game)
''Broom Service'' is a role selection board game designed by Andreas Pelikan and Alexander Pfister, and published by Ravensburger. It won the 2015 Kennerspiel, the Spiel des Jahres connoisseurs game of the year award. It is an adaptation of Pelikan's 2008 card game Witches' Brew. In 2016, a card game version was published as ''Broom Service: The Card Game''. Gameplay Players assume the role of druids, witches and potion gatherers. Each player receives an identical deck of 10 cards, each representing a role. A potion gatherer card allows the player to collect green, orange, or purple potions along the game board path. A witch card allows the player to move the player's pawn, and a druid card allows the player to deliver potions to a nearby tower of the same colour as the potion. Internationale Spieltage SPIEL, often called the Essen Game Fair after the city where it is held, is an annual four-day public Board game, boardgame trade fair held in October (Thursday to the following Sunday) at the Messe Essen exhibition centre in Essen, Germany. It began in 1983. With 1,021 exhibitors from 50 nations in 2016, SPIEL is the biggest fair for board games in the world. Many new games are released at the fair each year, especially (but not exclusively) European-style board games. At SPIEL, board games that are often hard to find in retail are offered by international and small exhibitors.
