Badminton At The 2023 European Games – Men's Singles
The men's singles badminton tournament at the 2023 European Games was played from 26 June to 2 July 2023 in Arena Jaskółka, Tarnów. A total of 32 players competed at the tournament, eight of whom was seeded. Competition format The tournament started with group phase round-robin which eliminated 16 players, followed by a single-elimination knockout stage. For the group stage, the players were divided into eight groups of four. Each group played a round-robin. The top two players in each group advanced to the knockout rounds. The knockout stage was a four-round single elimination tournament. Matches are played best-of-three games. Each game is played to 21, except that a player must win by 2 unless the score reaches 30–29. Badminton at the 2023 European Games was held at Arena Jaskółka, Tarnów, Poland from 26 June to 2 July. The badminton programme in 2023 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions. The event was functioned as the 2023 European Badminton Championships. Qualification Qualification was decided entirely by European rankings, using the BWF World Ranking system with non-European players removed. NOCs could enter up to two entries per event, provided that both entrants were in the top 8 individuals, or top 4 doubles pairs in the relevant European list - Denmark (twice), France and Great Britain were able to avail of this rule. Otherwise NOCs are restricted to one entry per event. In addition to France, Denmark and Great Britain, a further six NOCs achieved a single entry in every event, including the host, Poland. Misha Zilberman
Misha Zilberman ( he, מישה זילברמן, russian: Миша Зильберман; born 30 January 1989) is an Israeli badminton player. He competed for Israel at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics. He also won a bronze medal at the 2022 European Badminton Championships, and represented Israel at the 2015 and 2019 European Games. Zilberman is the first Israeli player to win a medal at the European Badminton Championships. Early and personal life Zilberman was born in Moscow, Soviet Russia. He is an only child of his father, Michael, and his mother, Svetlana Zilberman. His father was born in Russia in 1945, and immigrated to Israel in 1991, with his wife and son Misha, and worked in Pardes Hannah and then in Rishon LeZion. Svetlana was born in Belarus. Shachar Sagiv
Shachar Sagiv (שחר שגיב; born 11 October 1994) is an Israeli Olympic triathlete. In 2016, he won the bronze medal in the U23 European Triathlon Championships. Sagiv competed in the men's triathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021, coming in 20th. He won a silver medal in the 2023 European Games. Sagiv will represent Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the Men's triathlon at Pont Alexandre III on 30 July 2024.
