Islam In Sweden
Swedish contact with the Muslim world dates back to the 7th–10th centuries, when the Vikings traded with Muslims during the Islamic Golden Age. Since the late 1960s and more recently, Muslim immigration from the Middle East, Balkans and Horn of Africa has impacted the demographics of religion in Sweden, and has been the main driver of the spread of Islam in the country. Islam in Sweden increased at most as a result of high refugee influxes, notably during the Yugoslav Wars and the Somali Civil War in the 1990s, Iraq War in the 2000s and Syrian civil war in the 2010s. The Muslim community in Sweden hails from numerous countries, making it a complex and heterogeneous population. According to a 2019 report from the Swedish Agency for Support to Faith Communities, there were 200,445 Muslims in Sweden who practiced their religion regularly; this count came from those registered with Islamic congregations. Fittja Mosque
The Fittja Mosque () is a mosque in Fittja, Botkyrka Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It was constructed with Turkish-style architecture. The mosque, which began to be constructed in 1998http://www.botkyrka.se/omkommunen/pejlpabotkyrka/artiklar2004-2006/24397.html (in Swedish) and was completed in April 2007, is owned by the Islamic Cultural Association in Botkyrka, a mainly Turkish association with more than 1,500 members. The mosque is built in Turkish-style architecture, with a windowed mid-dome with birch wood panel and hand-painted tiles that cover the walls of the prayer room. The mosque minaret is 32.5 meters high. In the central prayer room, the women have their place of prayer on a 200 square meter high stand. Uppsala Mosque
The Uppsala Mosque () is a small but very frequented mosque located in the Kapellgärdet neighbourhood of Uppsala in Sweden. At the time of construction, it was mistakenly claimed to be the northernmost mosque in the world (Saint Petersburg was). It is still the northernmost mosque in Sweden. Malmö Mosque
The Malmö Mosque () is the second oldest mosque in Sweden. It is located in Jägersro villastad, a neighbourhood in Husie, Malmö. It was inaugurated on 20 April 1984 and is administered by the organization Islamic Center. Adjacent to the mosque is a charter school, which is also run by the Islamic Center. There have been several attacks against the mosque, including an arson attack on 28 April 2003, which damaged the mosque and destroyed other buildings at the Islamic Center.
