Irene Pepinghege
Irene Pepinhege-Rozema (born 11 February 1941) is a West German canoe sprinter who competed in the early to mid-1970s. She won three medals in the K-4 500 m event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with two silver in 1966 and 1971 and also a bronze in 1970. Pepinhege also competed in three Summer Olympics, earning her best finish of fourth in the K-1 500 m event at Munich in 1972 Within the context of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) it was the longest year ever, as two leap seconds were added during this 366-day year, an event which has not since been repeated. The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and officially branded as Munich 1972 (; ), were an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. It was the second Summer Olympics to be held in Germany, after the 1936 Summer Olympics, 1936 Games in Berlin, which had taken place under the Nazi Germany, Nazi rule.
