Irene Ogus is a female former international table tennis player from England. Table tennis career She won a bronze medal at the 1965 World Table Tennis Championships in the Corbillon Cup (women's team event) with Diane Rowe, Lesley Bell and Mary Shannon. She also won a gold medal in the team event at the 1964 European Table Tennis Championships. At the 1969 Maccabiah Games in Israel, she won a silver medal in singles, and with Leah Neuberger won a gold medal in doubles, and with Jeff Ingber won a gold medal in mixed doubles. Leah Neuberger
Leah Thall-Neuberger (December 17, 1915 in Columbus, Ohio – January 25, 1993), nicknamed Miss Ping, was an American table tennis player. She was ranked the # 3 table tennis player in the world in 1951. Table tennis career Her six World Championship medals included a gold medal in the mixed doubles at the 1956 World Table Tennis Championships with Erwin Klein. Her partners for the three bronze medals in the doubles were Davida Hawthorn, Thelma Thall and Peggy Ichkoff respectively. Neuberger won the United States national championships nine times as a single player, twelve times in doubles, and eight times in mixed doubles. She also won 41 times at the Canadian championships. She served on the Canadian team that travelled to the People’s Republic of China in 1971 on the Ping-Pong Diplomacy Tour. She also won two English Open titles. Jeff Ingber (17 September 1935 – 7 July 2019) was an English international table tennis player. Table tennis career He first played in the Junior singles at the 1947 English Open. He competed at the World Table Tennis Championships, in the Swaythling Cup during 1959 and 1961 for England. He won several gold medals at the Maccabiah Games, and at the 1969 Maccabiah Games won a silver medal in men's singles and a gold medal in mixed doubles with Irene Ogus. He reached the 1961 English Open final of the mixed doubles. Personal life He was born in Manchester and was Jewish. He died on 7 July 2019. At the 8th Maccabiah Games from July 29 to August 7, 1969, 1,450 athletes from 27 countries competed in 22 sports in Israel. The final gold medal count was the United States in first place (64), Israel second (48; though it won the greatest number of total medals), and Great Britain third (11). The World Table Tennis Championships are table tennis competitions sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The World Championships have been held since 1926, biennially since 1957. Five individual events, which include men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's double and mixed doubles, are currently held in odd numbered years. The World Team Table Tennis Championships, which include men's team and women's team events, were first their own competition in 2000. The Team Championships are held in even numbered years.
