Iran–Armenia Gas Pipeline
The Iran–Armenia gas pipeline is a long pipeline from Iran to Armenia. The long Iranian section runs from Tabriz to the Iran–Armenia border. The Armenian section runs from the Meghri region to Kajaran, and another of pipeline is planned to reach the center of the country, where it will link up with the existing distribution network. History The plans to build the pipeline for Iranian gas to flow into Armenia were initially announced on 15 April 2002 by Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisian. It started operations on 20 December 2006, and was officially inaugurated by the Presidents Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran and Robert Kocharyan of Armenia on 19 March 2007. Robert Kocharyan
Robert Sedraki Kocharyan ( ; born 31 August 1954) is an Armenian politician. He served as the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic from 1994 to 1997 and Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh from 1992 to 1994. He served as the second President of Armenia between 1998 and 2008 and as Prime Minister of Armenia from 1997 to 1998. Gazprom Armenia (; ), formerly known as ArmRosGazprom (; ), is a subsidiary of the Russian Gazprom company in Armenia. It was founded in 1997 as a joint Russian-Armenian natural gas pipeline project. When it was founded, the Russian state gas monopolist Gazprom owned 45% of stock, the Energy Ministry of Armenia 45% and the ITERA company 10%. Kajaran
Kajaran ( ) is a town and the centre of the Kajaran Municipality of the Syunik Province in southern Armenia. It is located 356 km south of the capital Yerevan, 25 km west of the provincial centre Kapan, and 50 km north of the Armenia-Iran border. As of the 2011 census, the population of the town was 7,163. Meghri
Meghri ( ; ) is a town and the centre of the Meghri Municipality of the Syunik Province in southern Armenia, near the border with Iran. As of the 2011 census, the population of the town was 4,580. According to the 2020 official estimate, Meghri's population is around 4,500. As of the 2022 census, the population of the town was 4,159.
