The 8th District of the Iowa Senate is located in Western Iowa, and is currently composed of Fremont County, Iowa, Fremont, Harrison County, Iowa, Harrison, and Mills County, Iowa, Mills counties, and the majority of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Pottawattamie County. Mark Costello (Iowa Politician)
Mark Costello (born October 24, 1961) is the Iowa State Senator from the Iowa Senate, District 8, 8th District. A Republican Party (United States), Republican, he has served in the Iowa Senate since being elected in 2014. He had also previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2013–2014. Biography Costello was born in Omaha, Nebraska but moved to Imogene, Iowa as a kid. He graduated from Nishna Valley High School before going on to attend the University of Northern Iowa, receiving a B.A. in computer information systems. After college Costello worked five years as a computer analyst with Garst Seed Company based in Coon Rapids, Iowa, Coon Rapids before eventually returning to work on his family farm. He and his wife Rachel were married in 2001. They have five children and currently reside on their family farm in Mills County, Iowa, Mills County. Mount Pleasant, Iowa
Mount Pleasant is a city in and the county seat of Henry County in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 9,274 in the 2020 census, an increase from 8,668 in the 2010 census. It was founded in 1835 by pioneer Presley Saunders. History The first permanent settlement at Mount Pleasant was made in 1833. Mount Pleasant was incorporated as a town in 1842, and again in 1851. In 1869, Mount Pleasant was the site of a solar eclipse expedition, under the command of James Craig Watson and sponsored by ''National Almanac.'' The total solar eclipse occurred on August 7, 1869. It is most notable for the unsolved axe murder that took place in the town during the summer of 1912. History The settlement was founded under the name "The Forks". Glenwood, Iowa
Glenwood is a city in, and the county seat of, Mills County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,073 in the 2020 census, a decline from 5,358 in 2000. History Located in a hollow of the Loess Hills on the east side of the Missouri River, Glenwood was established by Mormons in 1848 as Coonsville. It prospered during the California Gold Rush largely due to the grain mill on Keg Creek. Coonsville was the scene of anti-Mormon mob violence. It became the county seat of Mills County in 1851. In 1852, after most Mormons left for Utah, it was renamed Glenwood after a Presbyterian minister, Glenn Wood. The community supported the creation of Nebraska Territory in 1854. Malvern is a city in Mills County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,046 at the time of the 2020 census. The Wabash Trace—a railroad converted to a bicycle trail—passes through Malvern. The Mills County Fair is held here, although Glenwood is the county seat. Malvern is the largest town in the eastern half of the county. Montgomery County is a county located in the southwestern area of the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 10,330. Red Oak, Iowa
Red Oak is a city in, and the county seat of, Montgomery County, Iowa, United States, located along the East Nishnabotna River. The population was 5,596 in the 2020 census, a decline from the 6,197 population in 2000. History Red Oak derives its name from Red Oak Creek which flows through the community and was noted for the red oaks on its banks. The first settlers arrived there in the 1850s. In 1865 it became the official county seat of Montgomery County and the courthouse which had been in the middle of the county seven miles northeast in Frankfort, Iowa was towed to the community during a snow storm.
