Ionaspis Aptrootii
''Ionaspis aptrootii'' is a species of saxicolous lichen, saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichen in the family Hymeneliaceae. It occurs in New Guinea and Thailand. Taxonomy ''Ionaspis aptrootii'' is a replacement name for the taxon name ''Ionaspis tropica'', which was published by the Dutch lichenologist André Aptroot in 1997. That name was not validly published name, validly published, as it was predated by another taxon of the same name, described by Lincoln Ware Riddle in 1920. The new botanical name, species epithet honours Aptroot, who originally described the species. The type (biology), type specimen was collected by Aptroot in Varirata National Park, Papua New Guinea, where he found it growing on conglomerate rock at an elevation of . Helge Thorsten Lumbsch (born 1964) is a German-born lichenology, lichenologist living in the United States. His research interests include the phylogeny, taxonomy (biology), taxonomy, and phylogeography of lichen-forming fungi; lichen diversity; lichen chemistry and chemotaxonomy. He is the Associate Curator and Head of Cryptogams and Chair of the Department of Botany at the Field Museum of Natural History. Biography Lumbsch was born in Frankfurt in 1964. Interested in lichens already as a schoolboy, he studied natural sciences at the University of Marburg, under the tutelage of Aino Henssen. He received his diploma in 1989, with a dissertation titled ''Ontogenetisch-systematische Studien der Trapeliaceae und verwandter Familien (Lichenisierte Ascomyceten)'' ("Ontogenic-systematic studies of the Trapeliaceae and related families (lichenized ascomycetes)"). Prothallus
A prothallus, or prothallium, (from Latin ''pro'' = forwards and Greek ''θαλλος'' (''thallos'') = twig) is usually the gametophyte stage in the life of a fern or other pteridophyte. Occasionally the term is also used to describe the young gametophyte of a liverwort or peat moss as well. In lichens it refers to the region of the thallus that is free of algae. The prothallus develops from a germinating spore. Baeomycetales
The Baeomycetales are an order of mostly lichen-forming fungi in the subclass Ostropomycetidae, in the class Lecanoromycetes. It contains 8 families, 33 genera and about 170 species. As a result of molecular phylogenetics research published in the late 2010s, several orders were folded into the Baeomycetales, resulting in a substantial increase in the number of taxa. ''Ionaspis'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Hymeneliaceae. It contains six species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichens. The genus was originally circumscribed in 1871 by Theodor Magnus Fries. He segregated the genus from ''Aspicilia'' based on the presence of '' Trentepohlia'' rather than ''Trebouxia'' as the partner.
