International Academy Of Aquatic Art
The International Academy of Aquatic Art (or IAAA) is a nonprofit organization for the development of swimming as a performing art. It is based in the United States. History The IAAA was founded in 1955 by former synchronized swimmers from the US in order to develop swimming as artistic, creative and non-competitive activity. The incorporators were: *Mary Derosier: former national chairman of the Amateur Athletic Union, which was one of the first organizations who invented synchronized swimming competitions *Richard J. Synchronized Swimming
Synchronized swimming (in British English, synchronised swimming) or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by FINA (the ''Fédération internationale de natation'' or International Swimming Federation). The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is an amateur sports organization based in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. Beulah Gundling
Beulah Detwiler Gundling (Feb 13 1916 - Oct 1 2003) was an American synchronized swimmer, aquatic artist, choreographer and author. Early life and sportive career In her childhood Beulah Gundling was mainly interested in music and ballet. At the age of 14 she started to take swimming lessons after being encouraged by her parents to learn how to swim and dive. However, the first experiences with swimming were very negative for her, because she continuously sank in the water. She started to read instructional books on swimming, decided to teach herself how to float and successfully continued this autodidactic learning in the following years. She attended several competitions and even won an Iowa AAU gold medal for the backstroke. Bert Hubbard
Albert Hubbard (born June 29, 1927) is an American synchronized swimmer, choreographer and coach. He is also an aquatic artist as well as historian of the International Academy of Aquatic Art. Sportive career 1946-1954 Hubbard started synchronized swimming shortly after it was introduced in his birth town Detroit in 1946 by swimmers from Chicago. In 1949 he won the first '' Men's AAU Synchronised Swimming'' competition in the duet ''St.Louis Blues March'' with Lee Embrey. Johanna Beisteiner
Johanna Beisteiner (born 20 February 1976) is an Austrian classical guitarist, singer and arranger. Life Johanna Beisteiner received her first guitar lessons at the age of nine at the Josef Matthias Hauer music school in her hometown Wiener Neustadt.
