''In the Shadow of the Moon'' is a 2019 American science fiction thriller film. Directed by Jim Mickle and written by Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock, it stars Boyd Holbrook, Cleopatra Coleman, and Michael C. Hall. It had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2019, before it was released on Netflix on September 27, 2019. Plot In 1988 in Philadelphia, several people simultaneously hemorrhage with their brains seemingly having melted out of their facial orifices. Police officer Thomas Lockhart and his partner, Maddox, investigate the case with Lockhart's brother-in-law, Detective Holt. Lockhart concludes that the deaths are connected when he finds similar puncture wounds on each victim. Lockhart and Maddox find an assault victim with the same wounds; before dying, she describes her assailant as a black woman with a wounded hand. Jim Mickle
Jim Mickle (born 1979) is an American director and writer, known for such films as ''Mulberry Street (film), Mulberry Street'', ''Stake Land'', ''We Are What We Are (2013 film), We Are What We Are'' and ''Cold in July (film), Cold in July''. He also co-developed the SundanceTV series ''Hap and Leonard'', and the Netflix series ''Sweet Tooth (TV series), Sweet Tooth''. Early life Jim Mickle was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania in 1979. Mickle was inspired to become a director after he saw ''Army of Darkness''. He attended New York University and graduated in 2002. He worked as a production assistant and grip on a series of films by first-time directors who had not gone to film school. The experiences were frustrating for him, and he described the films as vanity projects. Mickle prefers directing and editing to writing, and he is attracted to the flexibility and intensity of horror films.
