''In Our Nature'' is the second studio album by Swedish singer-songwriter José González. It was released on 24 September 2007 on Peacefrog Records in the UK and Imperial Recordings in Sweden. It was released on 25 September 2007 by Mute Records in the United States. The album received generally positive reviews from critics: on Metacritic, it has a score of 72 out of 100 based on 27 reviews, indicating "generally favourable reviews". The album's lyrics address the human condition, or the ''nature'' that the title refers to. Though the sonic palette features classical guitar and vocal melody, as in his debut '' Veneer'', it is occasionally expanded. Hand claps, backing vocals and synthesizer are some notable additions. In Sweden, the first single was "Killing for Love", whereas in the rest of Europe it was "Down the Line". José González (singer)
José Gabriel González (born 31 July 1978) is a Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter and guitarist from Gothenburg. González is also a member of the band Junip, along with Tobias Winterkorn. Early life and education José González was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, to Argentine parents. The González family—made up of González's father, a National University of San Luis psychology student, González's mother, a fellow student studying biochemistry, both of whom were politically active, and González's older sister, then an infant—fled Argentina after the 1976 Argentine coup d'état, military coup d'état in March 1976, at the start of the "Dirty War". Escaping to Brazil, they were granted asylum by the Swedish consulate in Rio de Janeiro and relocated to Gothenburg in 1977. "Smalltown Boy" is the debut single by the British synth-pop band Bronski Beat, released in May 1984 by London Recordings. It was included on their debut album, '' The Age of Consent'' (1984). "Smalltown Boy" features electronic instrumentation, falsetto vocals and lyrics describing a young man who decides to leave home. The music video, directed by Bernard Rose and filmed in East London, depicts a boy who leaves home after being gay-bashed. "Smalltown Boy" is a gay anthem and remains associated with the rise of British gay culture in the 1980s. It received positive reviews, and in 2022 ''Rolling Stone'' named it the 163rd-greatest dance song. Yukimi Nagano
Yukimi Eleanora Nagano (born 31 January 1982), sometimes known mononymously as Yukimi, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She is the vocalist for the Swedish electronic group Little Dragon. Career Early career Nagano first made a record at the age of 18 with Andreas Saag (Swell Session). She then worked with Swedish nu jazz duo Koop on the songs "Summer Sun" and "Bright Nights" (both from 2001's '' Waltz for Koop'') and joined the duo on tour, which she says "opened a lot of doors for me both life and collaboration wise". Elizabeth Davidson Fraser (born 29 August 1963) is a Scottish singer. She was the vocalist for the band Cocteau Twins, who achieved success in the UK from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. Andrew Lee Isaac Vowles, also known as Mushroom, is an English musician, known for being a founding member of the trip hop/abstract art collective Massive Attack, along with Robert Del Naja (3D), Adrian Thaws (Tricky) and Grantley Marshall (Daddy G). Early years Vowles was born in Bristol. Daddy G
Grantley Evan Marshall (born 18 December 1959), also known by the stage name Daddy G, is a British DJ and a founding member of the band Massive Attack. Biography Born in Bristol to West Indian parents, Marshall joined the Bristol music scene as a member of the sound system the Wild Bunch in the 1980s. The sound system included the other three founding members of Massive Attack, Robert del Naja, Tricky and Andrew Vowles. At the time he was one of the youngest DJs in the city. In 1986, The Wild Bunch disbanded. Robert Del Naja
Robert Del Naja (; born 21 January 1965), also known as 3D, is a British artist, musician, singer and songwriter. He emerged as a graffiti artist and member of the Bristol collective The Wild Bunch (sound system), the Wild Bunch, and later as a founding member and sole consistent member of the band Massive Attack, with which he is still active. In 2009, he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Music Del Naja started rapping with the The Wild Bunch (sound system), Wild Bunch in Bristol in the mid-1980s. Vocals are performed by Scottish singer Elizabeth Fraser, former lead singer of Cocteau Twins, who also wrote the lyrics. Bronski Beat
Bronski Beat were a British synth-pop band formed in 1983 in London, England. The initial lineup, which recorded the majority of their hits, consisted of Scottish musicians Jimmy Somerville (vocals) and Steve Bronski (keyboards, percussion) and English musician Larry Steinbachek (keyboards, percussion). Simon Davolls contributed backing vocals to many songs. Throughout the band's career, Bronski was the only member to appear in every lineup. Peacefrog Records
Peacefrog Records is a British independent record label based in London, England. The label produces releases in many different styles of electronic music, as well as branching out into folk and indie artists such as José González, Nouvelle Vague and Little Dragon. The label was started by Pete Hutchison and Paul Ballard in 1991. After the Lodger 303 EP, Ballard withdrew from Peacefrog Records. The record label subsequently released a number of techno records, by artists including Luke Slater, Moodymann and Suburban Knight. The label has built up a following over the years, increased by the mainstream success of José González and has become synonymous for synching many of its recently signed artists music to film and television.
