''In Loving Memory'' is a British period piece, period British sitcom, sitcom set in an Funeral director, undertakers business that starred Thora Hird and Christopher Beeny. A pilot with Marjorie Rhodes in the Thora Hird role was transmitted on 4 November 1969 by Thames Television, who rejected the idea before it was finally accepted by ITV Yorkshire, Yorkshire Television nearly 10 years later, where it ran for a further five series between 21 May 1979 and 27 March 1986. Dick Sharples
Dick Sharples (7 June 1927 – 19 October 2015) was a British TV scriptwriter of British sitcoms. He has also written novels, plays and drama series (for both television and radio). Life and career Dick Sharples was born in Manchester. He began his career as a cartoonist and a writer for a Manchester Advertising Agency. One of the agency's customers was comedian Al Read who ran a meat pie company called H. Read and Son. Sharples wrote the tagline "potatoes and meat, simply heat" for the company's fritters. A chance meeting with a local, jobbing printer called Archie Carmichael led to Sharples writing his first novel whilst still a teenager. ''The Man Who Rode By Night'' was a 40,000-word Western, and led to Sharples being paid 21 shillings for every thousand words. Richard Wilson (Scottish Actor)
Richard Wilson (born Iain Carmichael Wilson; 9 July 1936) is a Scottish actor, theatre director and broadcaster. He is most famous for playing Victor Meldrew in the BBC sitcom '' One Foot in the Grave''. Another notable role was as Gaius, the court physician of Camelot, in the BBC drama ''Merlin''. Early life Wilson was born in Greenock in Renfrewshire, Scotland. He went to Lady Alice Primary school in Greenock. He studied science subjects at Greenock Academy, then completed his National Service with the Royal Army Medical Corps, serving in Singapore. Career Wilson worked in a laboratory at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow as a research assistant before switching to acting, aged 27. He trained at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in 1965 with an Acting (RADA Diploma). That's Your Funeral
''That's Your Funeral'' was a BBC sitcom from 1971 about a North of England funeral director called Basil Bulstrode (Bill Fraser). Storylines used many urban legends about the funeral industry. It was cancelled after one series. A very similar theme was used far more successfully in the ITV sitcom '' In Loving Memory''. BBC One Scotland and BBC One Northern Ireland dropped the show to accommodate their regional programmes in the same timeslot ''That's Your Funeral'' aired on the network BBC One and BBC One Wales. ''Hallelujah!'' is a British television sitcom produced by Yorkshire Television that aired on ITV from 29 April 1983 to 21 December 1984. The series was set in a Salvation Army citadel in the fictional Yorkshire town of Brigthorpe during series 1 (and later in the fictional place of Blackwick in series 2). Captain Emily Ridley (Thora Hird) has been posted there, having been an active member of the Salvation Army for 42 years. Luddenden is a district of Calderdale west of Halifax on the Luddenden Brook in the county of West Yorkshire, England. History The name means Ludd valley, or valley of the loud stream, and refers to the Luddenden Brook. An alternative meaning refers to the Celtic water god Lud, who gave his name to many water-related features. This was a Brythonic area, speaking a form of primitive Welsh, until perhaps the 9th century as a relict of the kingdom of Elmet. The spellings Ludingdene, Luddington and Luddyngden are found. Patsy Rowlands
Patricia Amy Rowlands (19 January 1931 – 22 January 2005) was an English actress who is best remembered for her roles in the ''Carry On'' films series, as Betty Lewis in the ITV Thames sitcom '' Bless This House'', and as Alice Meredith in the Yorkshire Television sitcom '' Hallelujah!''. Early years Rowlands was born in Palmers Green, Middlesex and attended the Sacred Heart convent school at Whetstone.
