Imogen Sutton is a Canadian–British producer and director and widow of animator Richard Williams. Richard Williams (animator)
Richard Edmund Williams (March 19, 1933 – August 16, 2019) was a Canadian-British animator, voice actor, director, and writer, best known for serving as animation director on ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit'' (1988), for which he won two Academy Awards, and for his unfinished feature film ''The Thief and the Cobbler'' (1993). He was also a film title sequence designer and animator. Other works in this field include the title sequences for ''What's New Pussycat?'' ''Prologue'' is a 2015 British animated short film directed by Richard Williams and produced by Imogen Sutton. It was the final film directed by Richard Williams before his death in August 2019. Summary It was to be the first part of a planned feature film based on the play ''Lysistrata'' by Aristophanes, in which Greek women withhold sexual privilege from their husbands and lovers in order to end a war. The short film depicts the gruesome combat between ancient Greek soldiers, resulting in the death of every combatant and the reveal that the entire skirmish was witnessed by a little girl, who runs off to the comfort of an older woman. Reception The film was a critical success and gained many awards and nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film. ''The Thief and the Cobbler'' is an Unfinished creative work, unfinished animated film, animated fantasy film co-written and directed by Richard Williams (animator), Richard Williams. Originally conceived in the 1960s, the film was in and out of production for nearly three decades due to independent funding and ambitiously complex animation. It was finally placed into full production in 1989, when Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. agreed to finance and distribute the film. When production went over budget and behind schedule, it was heavily cut and hastily re-edited by producer Fred Calvert without Williams's involvement. It was eventually released by Allied Filmmakers in 1993 with the title ''The Princess and the Cobbler''. ''The Animator's Survival Kit: A Manual of Methods, Principles, and Formulas for Classical, Computer, Games, Stop Motion, and Internet Animators'' () is an instructional book by Academy Award-winning animator and director Richard Williams. The book includes techniques, advice, tips, tricks, and general information on the history of animation. DVDs Animation examples from the book combined with footage from Richard Williams' masterclasses have been put into a 16-volume DVD box set titled ''The Animator's Survival Kit – Animated''. The logo from the book cover was completely animated in the traditional style, taking Williams and his animators 9 months to complete.
