''Images of Liberation'' ( da, Befrielsesbilleder) is a 1982 Danish drama film directed by Lars von Trier in his directorial debut. The film was Trier's graduation film from the National Film School of Denmark. It became the first ever Danish school film to receive regular theatrical distribution. It was screened in the Panorama section of the 34th Berlin International Film Festival. Kirsten Olesen
Kirsten Olesen (born 1949) is a Danish actress who since 1979 has been with Copenhagen's Royal Danish Theatre. In Denmark, she is known above all for taking the part of Agnes, a housemaid, in the popular television series ''Matador'' (1978–1982). Internationally, she has starred in the title role of Lars von Trier's ''Medea'' (1988). Biography Born on 10 May 1949 in Aarhus, Kirsten Olesen was the daughter of Jens Oscar Olesen (1912–1987) and Sigrid Marie Lange (1912–1999). The National Film School of Denmark ( da, Den Danske Filmskole) is an independent institution under the Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs. It was established in 1966 and is based on Holmen in the harbour of Copenhagen. The 34th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 17–28 February 1984. The festival opened with '' The Noah's Ark Principle'' by Roland Emmerich. The Golden Bear was awarded to the American film '' Love Streams'' directed by John Cassavetes. The Berlin International Film Festival (german: Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin), usually called the Berlinale (), is a major international film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 1951 and originally run in June, the festival has been held every February since 1978 and is one of the " Big Three" alongside the Venice Film Festival in Italy and the Cannes Film Festival in France. At the outset of World War II in September 1939, Denmark declared itself neutral. For most of the war, the country was a protectorate and then an occupied territory of Germany. The decision to occupy Denmark was taken in Berlin on 17 December 1939. On 9 April 1940, Germany occupied Denmark in Operation Weserübung.
