Ieuan Ap Rhydderch Ab Ieuan Llwyd
Ieuan ap Rhydderch ab Ieuan Llwyd (fl. 1410–1440) was a Welsh bard. He was a native of Glyn Aeron, Ceredigion. His father resided at Parc Rhydderch, is described as lord of Genau'r Glyn and Tregaron in the same county, and was an ancestor to the Pryse family of Gogerddan, and in the female line to the Wynnes of Peniarth. Ieuan ap Rhydderch appears to have been a collector of Welsh manuscripts, for a valuable volume of Welsh medieval romances, known after him as the White Book of Rhydderch, once belonged to him, and was later preserved in the Hengwrt Library. Another volume in the same collection, Llawysgrif Hendregadredd (National Library of Wales MS 6680B, The Hendregadredd Manuscript), is one of the two major sources for the Poetry of the Princes (11th–13th centuries, and also contains two poems by Dafydd ap Gwilym, possibly in that poet's own handwriting; this manuscript was also probably in Rhydderch's collection during the fourteenth century, it having have functioned ... Hengwrt Manuscripts
was a mansion near Dolgellau in Meirionnydd, Gwynedd. It lay in the parish of Llanelltyd near the confluence of the River Mawddach and River Wnion, near Cymer Abbey. With medieval origins, it was rebuilt or remodelled on several occasions before being demolished in 1962. It is remembered as the original home of the important collection of the Peniarth Manuscripts, now in the National Library of Wales. History Hengwrt was recorded as a grange of Cymer Abbey, and after the Dissolution of the Monasteries passed with the rest of the abbey properties to Sergeant at Arms John Powys. Dafydd Ap Gwilym
Dafydd ap Gwilym ( 1315/1320 – 1350/1370) is regarded as one of the leading Welsh poets and among the great poets of Europe in the Middle Ages. Dafydd’s poetry also offers a unique window into the transcultural movement of cultural practices and preservation of culture in the face of occupation. Dafydd also helps answer questions that linger over the spread of culture. Even though it has been given less attention, cultural development in Wales differed slightly than in other parts of Europe during the same time. Life R. White Book Of Rhydderch
The White Book of Rhydderch (Welsh: ''Llyfr Gwyn Rhydderch'', National Library of Wales, Peniarth MS 4-5) is one of the most notable and celebrated surviving manuscripts in Welsh language, Welsh. Mostly written in southwest Wales in the middle of the 14th century (c. 1350) it is the earliest collection of Welsh prose texts, though it also contains some examples of early Welsh poetry.
