IDAS (missile)
IDAS (Interactive Defence and Attack System for Submarines) is a medium-range missile currently being developed for the Type 209 and Type 212A submarine class of the German Navy. IDAS technology is based on the IRIS-T air-to-air missile which primarily targets aerial threats, such as ASW helicopters, but also against small or medium-sized surface vessels or coastal land targets. It is currently being developed by Diehl Defence and HDW, which is a part of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), to be fired from Type 212's torpedo tubes. IDAS use imaging infrared guidance with a fiber optic link to the boat and officially has a range of approximately 20 km. Four missiles will fit in one torpedo tube, stored in a magazine. First deliveries of IDAS for the German Navy and operational service were planned from 2014 on. Except for a few years of testing by the Royal Navy and Israeli Navy of the short range TV guided Blowpipe missile in the 1970s the IDAS system is the world's ...

Janus (moon)
Janus is an inner satellite of Saturn. It is also known as Saturn X. It is named after the mythological Janus. This natural satellite was first identified by Audouin Dollfus on December 15, 1966, although it had been unknowingly photographed earlier by Jean Texereau. Further observations led to the realization that Janus shares a unique orbital relationship with another moon, Epimetheus. The discovery of these two moons' peculiar co-orbital configuration was later confirmed by Voyager 1 in 1980. History Discovery Janus was identified by Audouin Dollfus on 15 December 1966 and given the temporary designation . Previously, had photographed Janus on 29 October 1966 without realising it. On 18 December, Richard Walker observed an object in the same orbit as Janus, but whose position could not be reconciled with the previous observations. Twelve years later, in October 1978, Stephen M. Larson and John W. Fountain realised that the 1966 observations were best explained by two di ...

Distributed Antenna System
A distributed antenna system (DAS) is a network of spatially separated Antenna (radio), antenna nodes connected to a common source via a transport medium that provides wireless service within a geographic area or structure. DAS antenna elevations are generally at or below the clutter (radar), clutter level, and node (networking), node installations are compact. A distributed antenna system may be deployed indoors (an iDAS) or outdoors (an oDAS). Concept As illustrated in the figure, the idea is to split the transmitted power among several Antenna (radio), antenna elements, separated in space so as to provide coverage over the same area as a single antenna but with reduced total power and improved reliability. A single antenna radiating at high power (a) is replaced by a group of low-power antennas to cover the same area (b). The idea was described in a paper by Saleh et al. in 1987. These antennas have recently been employed by several service providers in many areas around th ...
