Iceland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2024
Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Scared of Heights", written by Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir, Ferras Alqaisi, Jaro Omar, and Michael Burek, and performed by Hera Björk. The Icelandic participating broadcaster (RÚV) organised the national final ''2024'' in order to select its entry for the contest. Iceland was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 7 May 2024. Performing during the show in position 8, "Scared of Heights" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. It was later revealed that Iceland placed 15th (last) out of the 15 participating countries in the semi-final with 3 points. Eurobandið (Euroband) is the name of Icelandic technopop and dance duo Friðrik Ómar and Regína Ósk, who together represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song " Je ne sais quoi", written by Örlygur Smári and Hera Björk and performed by Björk. The Icelandic entry for the 2010 contest in Oslo, Norway was selected through the national final ''2010'', organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection process consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held on 9 January, 16 January, 23 January and 6 February 2010, respectively. Bashar Murad (Arabic: بشار مراد; born 7 February 1993) is a Palestinian singer-songwriter and video artist based in East Jerusalem. His music addresses societal norms, the Israeli Occupation, and gender equality in the Middle East. Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir (born 29 April 1981) is an Icelandic actress and television presenter who is the assistant director of RÚV, the Icelandic national broadcaster. She is a former Miss Iceland. Life and career Ragnhildur was born Keflavík where she lived most of her youth, excluding four years the family spent in Denmark.
