Ian Gibson (cricketer)
Ian Gibson (15 August 1936 – 3 May 1963) was an English doctor and cricketer who played first-class cricket for Oxford University between 1955 and 1958, for Derbyshire between 1957 and 1961 and for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1961. Biography Gibson was born in Glossop and was educated at Manchester Grammar School, where he was in the first XI from 1951 to 1954 and was captain in the last two years. In 1953 he played for the Public Schools XI and at the age of 17 began playing for the Lancashire Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship. He went to Brasenose College, Oxford, and in 1955 began his first-class cricketing career with Oxford University. He made his first-class debut against Gloucestershire, and played fifteen first-class games for the university and followed up his series of university matches playing for Lancashire 2nd XI. Ian Gibson (born 3 February 1956) is a Scottish former footballer, who played as a striker. Football career Gibson began his professional career at the Scottish Highland League club Nairn County. He then moved to Aberdeen in 1975, making his debut in the 2–0 win over Dumbarton. He remained there for a further three seasons, until he moved to Kilmarnock in 1978. Gibson made seventy appearances for Kilmarnock, scoring twelve goals. Career Gibson began his professional career with Partick Thistle and made over 100 league appearances for ''The Jags'' during his seven years at Firhill. A move to Dundee United during the 1980–81 season beckoned, although Gibson played little over twenty league matches during his eighteen months at Tannadice, spending time on loan with Morton and St Johnstone. Ian Gibson (26 September 1938 – 9 April 2021) was a British Labour politician and scientist who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Norwich North from 1997 to 2009. Gibson was a professor at the University of East Anglia before his election to Parliament and was considered one of the country's leading cancer experts. He chaired the Science and Technology Committee in the House of Commons from 2001 to 2005 and came into conflict with the Blair government due to his left-wing views. He resigned from the Commons in 2009 after being barred from standing as a Labour candidate in the 2010 general election due to his behaviour during the parliamentary expenses scandal. Ian Gibson (born 21 April 1939) is an Irish author and Hispanist known for his biographies of the poet Antonio Machado, the artist Salvador Dalí, the bibliographer Henry Spencer Ashbee, the filmmaker Luis Buñuel, and particularly his work on the poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, for which he won several awards, including the 1989 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for biography. Ian Gibson (20 February 1946 – 11 December 2023) was a British comic book artist, best known for his 1980s black-and-white work for '' 2000 AD'', especially as the main artist on ''Robo-Hunter'' and ''The Ballad of Halo Jones'', as well as his long run on ''Judge Dredd''. Biography Gibson's imaginative cartoonish, and intricately detailed style (especially in black and white strips) lent itself well to humorous strips, such as ''Robo-Hunter'', although his work on the Alan Moore-penned ''The Ballad of Halo Jones'' showed that he was capable of telling a serious story. Sir Ian Gibson CBE (born 1 February 1947) is a businessman who has chaired or been on the board of a number of Britain's largest companies. His previous chairmanships include British Plaster Board, Wm Morrison Supermarkets, Trinity Mirror, the owner of the ''Daily Mirror'' and other regional publications, and Deputy Chairman of ASDA plc. Ian Gibson (born 7 April 1963) is a Professor of Design Engineering at the University of Twente. Gibson was selected as the scientific director of Fraunhofer Project Center at the University of Twente and is a recipient of lifetime achievement award, the Freeform and Additive Manufacturing Award. His main areas of research are in at the additive manufacturing, multi-material systems, micro-RP, Rapid Prototyping, Medical Modelling and tissue engineering.
