''I kongens klær'' (In the King's Clothes) is a Norwegian film directed by Finn Myklegård and based on Magnus Brostrup Landstad's novel ''Den evigglade Sjuåførr''. The film premiered on October 12, 1933. It is a military revue starring Einar Rose. Plot According to ''Aftenposten'', this is "not an ordinary film with a plot, but a revue about our recruits' lives at the Gardermoen military base, from the moment they are accepted until they return to their homes. The conclusion is formed by the joint exercises at Gardermoen in the summer, with a parade for the commanding general. You get to experience camp life, barracks life, gymnastics, and weapons exercises. The original intention was to make comedy based on Magnus Brostrup Landstad's ''Den evigglade sjuåførr'', but the ministry did not want the actors to perform in uniform. Magnus Brostrup Landstad
Magnus Brostrup Landstad (7 October 1802 – 8 October 1880) was a Norwegian parish priest and provost, hymn writer, and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. Biography Landstad was born in the village of Måsøy in Finnmark, Norway. He was one of ten children born to the parish priest Hans Landstad (1771–1838) and Margrethe Elisabeth Schnitler (1768–1850). His father was a minister, who first worked at Øksnes Church in 1806, then relocated to Vinje Church in 1811 and to Seljord Church in 1819. His grandfather was Peter Schnitler (1690–1751). He was a cousin of the priest and local historian Hans Peter Schnitler Krag (1794–1855). Landstad received a theology degree ('' cand.theol.'') in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years. Einar Rose
Einar Rose (27 January 1898 – 3 February 1979) was a Norwegian actor, revue artist, singer and restaurant keeper. He was among Norway's most popular singers, and recorded more than 300 songs between 1927 and 1941. He made his debut in the revue ''Regnbuen på Mayol'' in 1925. He played at the revue theatre Chat Noir from 1926, and was artistic director at Chat Noir from 1936. Among his best known song performances are "Svigermor og Evensen og kjerringa og jeg", "Sol ute, sol inne", "Ola var fra Sandefjord" and "Nå går'n på gummisåler". Arne Svendsen
Arne Svendsen (11 December 1884 – 20 November 1958) was a Norwegian songwriter, actor and revue writer. Career Svendsen was born in Fosnes Municipality in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. In 1910, he left home and settled in Fredrikstad Municipality, where he first worked as a hairdresser and barber. In 1911, he wrote his first revue for the ''Fredrikstad Arbeiderforening'', followed by five new revues annually until 1920. From 1921, Svendsen was associated with Chat Noir, a cabaret and revue theatre in Oslo. He wrote the revue, ''Midt i planeten'' together with Per Kvist in 1922. He also collaborated with songwriter Finn Bo (1927–36). From 1937 he worked with teams of various revue writers including Bias Bernhoft, Arild Feldborg and Erik Diesen. Gardermoen is an area at the border of the municipalities Nannestad and Ullensaker in Akershus, Norway. In 1998, it had a population of 259 people. A sutler or victualer is a civilian merchant who sells provisions to an army in the field, in camp, or in quarters. Sutlers sold wares from the back of a wagon or a temporary tent, traveling with an army or to remote military outposts. Sutler wagons were associated with the military, while chuckwagons served a similar purpose for civilian wagon trains and outposts. Hilda Fredriksen
Hilda Fredriksen (December 10, 1873 – June 30, 1945) was a Norwegian stage and film actress. Family Hilda Fredriksen was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway, as the daughter of the police officer Carl Fredriksen (1847–1902) and Maren Gustava Gulliksen (1848–1924). Ella Peaters
Ella Zefora Peaters (born Ella Zefora Hansen, February 13, 1907 – March 14, 1991) was a Norwegian actress, revue artist, singer, and circus performer. Peaters was born in Skien, Norway. She debuted at age four as a line dancer and then toured as a circus performer, dancer, hit singer, variety artist, and revue prima donna. Peaters was engaged at Dovrehallen as a folk ballad singer and was also associated with the Scala Theater in Copenhagen and Chat Noir in Oslo. She also worked abroad.
