The George Floyd protests were a series of protests and civil unrest against police brutality and racism that began in Minneapolis on May 26, 2020, and largely took place during 2020. David Joseph Dungay Jr was a 26-year-old Aboriginal Australian man who died in New South Wales Corrective Services custody at the Long Bay Correctional Centre on 29 December 2015. On July 17, 2014, Eric Garner was killed in the New York City borough of Staten Island after Daniel Pantaleo, a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, put him in a prohibited chokehold while arresting him.
