South Carolina Highway 27 (SC 27) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It serves to connect the town of Ridgeville with nearby highways. Route description SC 27 is a two-lane rural highway that connect the town of Ridgeville south to the unincorporated community of Givhans to its south and highways U.S. Route 78 (US 78), Interstate 26 (I-26), and US 176 to its north. The predominant features along the route are farmland mixed with forest and swamps. History Established as the second SC 27 around 1931, it traversed from SC 65 (current SC 61) in Givhans, to US 78 east of Ridgeville. In 1940, it was rerouted north from Ridgeville to US 78 and then spur up to the Berkeley County line. In 1941 or 1942, SC 27 was extended north into Berkeley County to SC 31 (current US 176). Givhans Ferry State Park
Givhans Ferry State Park is a state park located near the town of Ridgeville in Dorchester County, South Carolina. History The property used to create Givhans Ferry State Park was donated by the city of Charleston in 1934 and was one of the original built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in South Carolina. Its namesake, Phillip Givhan, was a ferry master on the Edisto River and operated Givhan's Ferry, which allowed access between Augusta and Charleston. A cemetery is located on the grounds of the park. The only remaining tombstone belongs to Mary E Ford, granddaughter of Phillip Givhan. A series of copper marl limestone bluffs along the Edisto River in the park, formed by prehistoric ocean deposits, are protected as a Heritage Trust Site. Bamberg is a city in and the county seat of Bamberg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,607 at the 2010 census. History Bamberg is named after early resident William Seaborn Bamberg. Members of the Bamberg family continue to live in the county to this day. The Bamberg City Hall, Bamberg Historic District, Bamberg Post Office, Gen. Francis Marion Bamberg House, Cal Smoak Site, and Woodlands are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Blackville is a small town in Barnwell County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,406 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Alexander Black, a railroad promoter. History On December 22, 1781, a band of British Loyalists fought with a group of local Patriots two miles north of Blackville. The location, called Windy Hill at that time, is slightly east of the present-day Healing Springs Park and Church. The commanding officer was Captain Benjamin Odom, Jr. who was a member of Colonel William Harden's regiment. Sixteen Patriots were killed. Williston is a town in Barnwell County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,139 at the 2010 census. The town lies in the center of the Charleston-Hamburg railroad line, the line of the Best Friend locomotive.
