IGNITE SystemsGo
SystemsGo is a classroom program used in the United States promote the study of engineering and the development of work force skills. It is intended to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mechanics. It is based in Fredericksburg, Texas. It allows students to learn more about the past, present, and future of rocket technology, as well as use information learned from independent study to complete hands-on projects. Annual Rocket Meet Every spring, teams from high schools in the US gather in at several sites to launch their semester project rockets. The program offers high school students three different levels of projects, ranging from a mid-sized rocket traveling to a one mile apogee to rockets weighing several hundred pounds with the potential to reach Near space, near-space altitudes. Program levels ''Tsiolkovsky Level'' : The first stage of the Program, named after the Soviet rocket scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, requires students t ... Near Space
Near space is the upper region of the Earth's atmosphere between airspace and outer space. It is sometimes referred to as the " edge of space". There is no legal definition for this extent, but typically this is the altitude range from . Range The lower limit of this region is set by the flight envelope of normal aircraft. For safety reasons, commercial aircraft are normally limited to altitudes of , and air navigation services only extend to . The upper limit of the near space range is the Kármán line at , where astrodynamics must take over from aerodynamics in order to achieve flight. This range includes the stratosphere, mesosphere and lower thermosphere layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Larger ranges for ''near space'' are used by some authors, such as . These extend from the Armstrong limit to the altitudes where orbital flight in very low Earth orbits becomes practical. Konstantin Tsiolkovsky
Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (; rus, Константин Эдуардович Циолковский, p=kənstɐnʲˈtʲin ɪdʊˈardəvʲɪtɕ tsɨɐlˈkofskʲɪj, a=Ru-Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.oga; – 19 September 1935) was a Russian rocket scientist who pioneered astronautics. Along with Hermann Oberth and Robert H. Goddard, he is one of the pioneers of space flight and the founding father of modern rocketry and astronautics. His works later inspired Wernher von Braun and leading Soviet rocket engineering, rocket engineers Sergei Korolev and Valentin Glushko, who contributed to the success of the Soviet space program. Tsiolkovsky spent most of his life in a log house on the outskirts of Kaluga, about southwest of Moscow. A recluse by nature, his unusual habits made him seem bizarre to his fellow townsfolk. Early life Tsiolkovsky was born in (now in Spassky District, Ryazan Oblast), in the Russian Empire, to a middle-class family. His father, Makary Edward Er ... Oberth supported Nazi Germany's war effort and received the War Merit Cross, War Merit Cross (1st Class) in 1943.'''' Early life Oberth was born into a Transylvanian Saxons, Transylvanian Saxon family in Nagyszeben (Hermannstadt), Kingdom of Hungary (today Sibiu in Romania); and besides his native German language, German, he was fluent in Hungarian language, Hungarian and Romanian language, Romanian as well. At the age of 11, Oberth's interest in rocketry was sparked by the novels of Jules Verne, especially ''From the Earth to the Moon'' and ''Around the Moon''. He was fond of reading them over and over until they were engraved in his memory. As a result, Oberth constructed his first model rocket as a school student at the age of 14. In his youthful experiments, he arrived independentl ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Transonic
Transonic (or transsonic) flow is air flowing around an object at a speed that generates regions of both subsonic and Supersonic speed, supersonic airflow around that object. The exact range of speeds depends on the object's critical Mach number, but transonic flow is seen at flight speeds close to the speed of sound (343 m/s at sea level), typically between Mach number, Mach 0.8 and 1.2. The issue of transonic speed (or transonic region) first appeared during World War II. Pilots found as they approached the sound barrier the airflow caused aircraft to become unsteady. Experts found that shock waves can cause large-scale Flow separation, separation downstream, increasing drag, adding asymmetry and unsteadiness to the flow around the vehicle. Research has been done into weakening shock waves in transonic flight through the use of Anti-shock body, anti-shock bodies and supercritical airfoils. Most modern jet engine, jet powered aircraft are engineered to operate at transon ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
