IEEE Gustav Robert Kirchhoff Award
The IEEE Gustav Robert Kirchhoff Award is a Technical Field Award established by the IEEE Board of Directors in 2003. This award is presented for outstanding contributions to the fundamentals of any aspect of electronic circuits and systems that has a long-term significance or impact. The award may be presented to an individual or multiple recipients where all members of the group could be judged to have made a crucial contribution(s) to the overall outcome. Gustav Robert Kirchhoff
Gustav Robert Kirchhoff (; 12 March 1824 – 17 October 1887) was a German chemist, mathematician, physicist, and spectroscopist who contributed to the fundamental understanding of electrical circuits, spectroscopy and the emission of black-body radiation by heated objects. He also coined the term ''black body'' in 1860. Several different sets of concepts are named "Kirchhoff's laws" after him, which include Kirchhoff's circuit laws, Kirchhoff's law of thermal radiation, and Kirchhoff's law of thermochemistry. The Bunsen–Kirchhoff Award for spectroscopy is named after Kirchhoff and his colleague, Robert Bunsen. Electronic Circuits
An electronic circuit is composed of individual electronic components, such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes, connected by conductive wires or traces through which electric current can flow. Mary Jane Irwin
Mary Jane Irwin is an Emerita Evan Pugh Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. She has been on the faculty at Penn State since 1977. She is an international expert in computer architecture. Her research and teaching interests include computer architecture, embedded and mobile computing systems design, power and reliability aware design, and emerging technologies in computing systems. Chung Laung Liu (; 1934 – 7 November 2020), also known as David Liu or C. L. Liu, was a Taiwanese computer scientist. He received his undergraduate degree in Taiwan, master's degree and doctorate in the United States. Early life and education Liu was born in Guangzhou and spent his childhood in Macau. He received his B.S. degree (1956) at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, and his M.S. degree (1960), and his Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree (1962) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
