Halsnøy Klostergods
Halsnøya or Halsnøy is an island in Kvinnherad municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies between the Hardangerfjorden and Skånevikfjorden. The island has about 2,300 inhabitants (2008) and it is the most populated island in Kvinnherad municipality. Prior to 2008, it was the most populated island in Norway without a direct connection to land, but the Halsnøy Tunnel opened that year, finally connecting it to the mainland by road. There is a regular ferry connection from southern Halsnøy to the neighboring islands of Fjelbergøya and Borgundøya, located just south of Halsnøy. History The island was the site of the Halsnøy Abbey (closed in 1536), which once was one of the richest monasteries in Norway. Today it is a highly popular tourist attraction. In 1896, one of the oldest boats recovered in Norway was found in the Toftevåg bay on the north side of the island. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). Vestland was created in 2020 when the former counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane (with the exception of Hornindal municipality, which became part of Volda municipality in Møre og Romsdal county) were merged. Høylandsbygd is a village in Kvinnherad municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern part of the island of Halsnøya. It is one of the largest urban areas on the island, just after Sæbøvik and Eidsvik. While originally one of the island's largest farming villages, today it is renowned for its position in Norwegian shipping industry. Until 1964, the village was divided between two municipalities: Fjelberg and Skånevik, with the border running in parallel with today's main road called ''Slettanesveien''. ''The Danish Poet'' ( no, Den danske dikteren) is a 2006 animated short film written, directed, and animated by Torill Kove and narrated by Liv Ullmann. A co-production of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Mikrofilm AS of Norway, it has won both the Academy Award and Genie Award for best animated short film. Synopsis The film follows Kaspar Jørgensen, a Danish poet in the 1940s who is seeking inspiration. Johannes Malvin Georgsson Eide, usually spelled Johs G. Eide (born 30 October 1937) is a Norwegian businessman, entrepreneur and shipbuilder. He is one of the founding owners, and former CEO of Eide Marine Services. Early life and career Johannes Eide was born in Hоylandsbygd in 1937, as the second of six children. His father, Georg Eide Sr (1896-1951), was a shipbuilder, and ran a shipping plant not far from their home and Johannes inherited many of his father's boat building skills. In 1951, when Eide was two weeks shy of 14 years old, his father died suddenly, and so he left home to work to support his family. Robert Post (born Robert Øien Fylling, 1979 in Langevåg, Norway) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. Post won two awards, Best Male Artist and Best Video, at Norway's equivalent of the Grammys, Spellemannprisen, in 2005 for his debut album. He has also toured with Aimee Mann, Rufus Wainwright, Ray Lamontagne, Texas, Natalie Imbruglia and Jason Mraz. Post debuted with a worldwide release of his eponymous debut album in August 2005. Record producer Mike Hedges oversaw the album, and they recorded it through the original EMI mixing desk used for Pink Floyd's ''The Dark Side of the Moon''. Høylandsbygd Shipping Mural
The Høylandsbygd shipping mural is a wall mural located in Høylandsbygd in Kvinnherad. It is the biggest painted mural in the world, with the larger of the two painted walls being 80 metres long and 16 metres tall. The total area of both paintings is 1,500 m2. Radiohola
Radiohòla (literal: ''the radio cave'') is a natural shelter used by the Norwegian resistance during the Second World War. It served as a hiding place for a radio that brought news from the British, during a time of which radios were banned and the German occupants arrested and prosecuted those found in possession of one. History Location The cave is located on the island of Halsnøy, 1.5–2 kilometres inland, on the top of a small clearing surrounded by forests, and cannot be seen from low ground, which made it an ideal hiding place for the resistance. Initially only accessible from the topside (making the cave virtually invisible even at close range), the rocks in front of the cave were removed in 1990, to make the cave more easily accessible for tourists and visitors.
