Joseph Höffner
Joseph Höffner (24 December 1906 – 16 October 1987) was a German cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Archbishop of Cologne from 1969 to 1987 and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1969. Biography Born in Horhausen, Höffner attended the seminary in Freiburg im Breisgau and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome before being ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Francesco Marchetti-Selvaggiani on 30 October 1932. Having already earned a doctorate of philosophy in 1929, Höffner earned a doctorate of theology in Rome in 1934, another doctorate of theology in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1938, a degree in economics in 1939 and a doctorate in political science in 1940. After 1934, he also did pastoral work in Trier until 1945. After teaching at the Trier seminary for six years, Höffner was named to the University of Münster in 1951. Höffner is a furniture retailer in Germany. The company is a full-range supplier in the home and furnishing sector. Its core range comprises around 100,000 products. In addition to furniture in a wide variety of styles, the company also offers household goods and home accessories. History A company of that name was founded in 1874 by Rudolf Höffner, and became Berlin's biggest furniture retailer before World War II. Based in the eastern part of Berlin, the company was discontinued after the war. In 1967 Kurt Krieger bought the right to the name "Höffner" and created a new company under that name. This company was initially based in Berlin-Wedding, but the headquarters moved to Schönefeld, Brandenburg after Germany's reunification. Charles Hoffner
Charles Harvey Hoffner (October 20, 1896 – November 9, 1981) was an American professional golfer. His best finish in an important tournament was a win at the first Philadelphia PGA Championship in 1922. In major championships, Hoffner tied for 13th place in the 1914 and 1919 U.S. Opens. He finished T17 in the 1920, 1922, 1924, and 1925 PGA Championships. Hoffner had played in the 1921 International Challenge Match held at the Gleneagles Kings Course in Scotland. The match was the forerunner to the Ryder Cup matches. Upon his return to Philadelphia, Hoffner wrote an article in ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'' about the importance of the international sporting match for the greater good of relations between the people and governments of the two continents. The Hoffner Historic District is a historic collection of buildings in the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Built primarily at the end of the nineteenth century, the district has experienced few changes since it was built, and it has been named a historic site. It is composed of twelve buildings in an area of , of which eleven contribute to its historic nature. The buildings are four commercial buildings along Hamilton Avenue, including the Hoffner Lodge at the corner; six small private residences on Moline Court; and the Myron Johnson Lumber Company building behind them on Langland Street. The southern portion of the block was in the 1970s occupied by a non-contributing gas station, which has since been replaced with a new apartment complex. Wild About Nothing is the debut studio album by Helen Hoffner. It was the culmination of ten years work that started in 1982 when Helen joined the band The Astronauts (Stiff Records) with Simon Burton and David Lief. Subsequently, Simon and Helen formed an all-female band called The Marines (CBS/Sony Records) with Denny Jones and Sarah Pritchard; Simon wrote and produced the material and they were managed by Colin Lester. After a couple of minor hit singles and tour support for Kylie Minogue in 1989, it was decided that Helen should become a solo artist. For the next 18 months, Helen and Simon worked on putting her solo album together. They signed to Warner Brothers and began recording in April 1992. Louise Hoffner (born 27 October 1963), known professionally as Lou, is a German pop singer. She toured with her band for 15 years, in Germany as well as abroad. Eurovision Lou participated in the 2001 Eurovision national finals, coming in third place.
