Hyloxalus Pulchellus
''Hyloxalus pulchellus'' is a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae from northern Ecuador and southern Colombia. Colombina source does not include Nariño but does include Putumayo Department. Distribution ''Hyloxalus pulchellus'' is found in the inter- Andean páramos of northern Ecuador and adjacent Colombia ( Nariño and Cauca Departments) and on the eastern slopes of the Andes from southern Colombia south in Ecuador to the headwaters of the Pastaza River. Colombian source does not include Nariño but does include Putumayo Department. Its altitudinal range is asl; at the higher end of this range it is the only frog species of this kind. Description Males measure and females in snout–vent length. Dorsum is dark brown with diffuse greenish tint. Marcos Jiménez De La Espada
Marcos Jiménez de la Espada (1831–1898) was a Spanish zoologist, herpetologist, explorer and writer, born in Cartagena, Spain, although he spent most of his life in Madrid, where he died. He is known for participating in the Pacific Scientific Commission, with whom he traveled America from 1862 to 1865. He also published several works on geography and history of the American continent. Biography The son of a politician, Jiménez de la Espada had to move several times during his childhood and youth, studying in Valladolid, Barcelona and Sevilla. ''Hyloxalus'' is a genus of poison dart frogs, family Dendrobatidae. The genus is distributed in Central and South America, from Panama south to Peru (along the Pacific coast), along with Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. Chytridiomycosis ( ) is an infectious disease in amphibians, caused by the chytrid fungi '' Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis'' and '' Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans''.
