Hungary Women's National Ice Hockey Team
The Hungarian women's national ice hockey team () represents Hungary at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship and other senior international women's tournaments. The women's national team is organized by the Magyar Jégkorong Szövetség (Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation). The Hungarian women's national team was ranked 12th in the world in 2020. They hosted and won the 2019 World Championship Division I Group A tournament in Budapest. The victory earned promotion to the Top Division for the first time in team history. Ice hockey increased in popularity among women in Hungary during the later part of the 2010s. Hungary had 477 female players registered with the IIHF in 2016 and, by 2020, the number had more than doubled to 1,144. Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation
The Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation (, , MJSZ) is the governing body of ice hockey in Hungary. The federation was founded under the leadership of György Pásztor in 1988, when it separated from the Hungarian Ice Sports Association. He felt that to improve ice hockey in Hungary, a stronger national league was needed, which required more youths, more arenas, and proper leadership. 2003 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships
The 2003 IIHF Women's World Championships was set to be held in Beijing, China, from April 4–9, 2003. However, it was cancelled due to the global SARS oubreak. Only the top division event was cancelled, as the lower divisions still had their tournaments. The teams from Russia, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland were already in China, while the American and Finnish teams were awaiting word on whether they should travel when the IIHF indicated that the Championships were to be postponed or even cancelled. The move to cancel was a logical one, as the Canadians were under a government order not to travel at all at that time. The Division I tournament was held in Ventspils, Latvia from March 9 to 15. The Division II tournament was held in Lecco, Italy from March 31 to April 6. Top Division Postponed, then cancelled. 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I
The 2018 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I consisted of two international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Division I A and Division I B represent the second and third tier of the IIHF Women's World Championship. France won the Division I Group A tournament and moved up to the Top Division, while Italy became the champions of Division I Group B and will play in the Division I Group A tournament next year. 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I
The 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I consisted of two international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Division I A and Division I B represent the second and third tier of the IIHF Women's World Championship. At the 2017 IIHF annual congress it was decided that the Top Division would expand from eight to ten teams. As a result, all relegations from the 2017 tournaments were cancelled, and there would also be no relegation in all 2018 tournaments. The 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II consisted of three international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. 2011 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships – Division III
The 2011 IIHF Women's World Championship Division III was an international ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was played in Newcastle, New South Wales, Newcastle, Australia, from 1 to 6 February 2011. Division III represented the fourth tier of the IIHF Women's World Championship. The winner of this tournament was promoted to Division II (renamed I B) for the 2012 championships, while the last-placed team in the group was relegated to Division IV (renamed II B). This tournament was the first at this level since 2008, and finished in dramatic style as the Netherlands won in a Shootout (ice hockey), shootout. 2009 IIHF Women's World Championship
The 2009 IIHF World Women's Championships was held in Hämeenlinna, Finland, from 4 to 12 April 2009. This was the 12th women's ice hockey world championship run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The defending champions United States defeated Canada 4–1 in the final match to win the gold medal and retain their top standing another year. This was the last world championships with nine teams in the Top Division. Two teams—Japan and China—were relegated to Division I, replaced by only one—Slovakia—promoted from there.
