Howard E. Wright
Howard Elwood Wright (1866 – October 10, 1942) was a politician from California who served in the California State Assembly as a Republican from the 51st district between 1897 and 1899. In January 1899, Wright was elected the 31st Speaker of the Assembly, but resigned the office and his seat in the assembly after just 29 days after he was allegedly involved in a vote-buying scheme for U.S. Senate candidates, which at the time were elected by the state legislature. Wright had also forged campaign documents, the penalty for which would have been forfeiture of office; James K. Burnett, another state assemblyman, introduced an expulsion resolution for Wright prior to his resignation from the Assembly. Alden Anderson was chosen to succeed Wright following his resignation. Frank Leslie Coombs
Frank Leslie Coombs (December 27, 1853 – October 5, 1934) was an American lawyer and politician who served one term as a congressman from California from 1901 to 1903. Early life and education Frank Leslie Coombs was born in Napa, California, the son of Nathan Coombs and Maria Isabel Gordon. His maternal grandparents were William Gordon (who was a naturalized Mexican citizen originally from Ohio) and Juana Maria Lucero (who was Mexican). Coombs attended the public schools in California and Dorchester High School in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from the law department of Columbian University (now George Washington University Law School), Washington, D.C., in 1875. Alden Anderson
Alden Anderson (October 11, 1867 – September 23, 1944) was a Republican politician from California. He served as the 23rd lieutenant governor of California from 1903 to 1907. Prior to that he had been a member of the California State Assembly representing Solano County, and served as its Speaker from January 1899 to February 1900. Although Anderson's father had first migrated to California from Pennsylvania shortly after the California Gold Rush in 1852, Anderson was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania in 1867. His family returned to California several months later and settled in San Jose. Anderson attended the University of the Pacific and afterward worked in his father's fruit packing business, before starting his own fruit business in Suisun City in Solano County.
