Hovercraft Club Of Great Britain
The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain is the voluntary-run national sports governing body for racing light hovercraft in England, Scotland and Wales. History It was founded in 1966. The hovercraft was developed by Hovercraft Development in the early 1960s. In the 1970s it was affiliated to the Water Recreation Division of the Central Council of Physical Recreation (now the Sport and Recreation Alliance). The Hovercraft club of Great Britain ran national school competitions one such competition took place at Ramsgate circa 1974. Structure The HCGB is affiliated to the World Hovercraft Federation and European Hovercraft Federation. A hovercraft (: hovercraft), also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is an amphibious craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud, ice, and various other surfaces. Hovercraft use blowers to produce a large volume of air below the Hull (watercraft), hull, or air cushion, that is slightly above atmospheric pressure. Sport Northern Ireland, officially the Sports Council for Northern Ireland, is the regional government sports council (funding body) for Northern Ireland. UK Sport is the government agency responsible for investing money sourced from the National Lottery and the government, into Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom. It is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
