House Of Olivares
{{Short description, Family The House of Olivares is a Spanish noble house originating in the Crown of Castile. It is a cadet branch of the House of Medina Sidonia, originating in the sixteenth century. Historically, the house possessed the lordships of Olivares, Seville; Heliche; Albaida del Aljarafe; Camas, Seville; Castilleja de Guzmán; Castilleja de la Cuesta; Salteras; and Tomares. The most prominent member of the House of Olivares was Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares, the favourite of Philip IV of Spain. Philip IV (, ; 8 April 160517 September 1665), also called the Planet King (Spanish: ''Rey Planeta''), was King of Spain from 1621 to his death and (as Philip III) King of Portugal from 1621 to 1640. Luis Méndez de Haro, 6th Marquis of Carpio and 2nd Duke of Olivares or Luis Méndez de Haro y Guzmán, , (17 February 1598 – 26 November 1661), was a Spanish political figure, general and art collector. He was the royal favourite (Spanish: ''valido'') of Philip IV. De Haro was also notable as being one of the very few Spanish royal favourites of the period to die whilst still in favour. Biography Early years Luis Méndez de Haro y Guzmán was the son of Diego de Haro, the marquis of Carpio, and of doña Francisca de Guzmán, the sister of Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares. Enrique Felipe de Guzmán, 2nd Count-Duke of Olivares was the illegitimate son of Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares, who was legitimated in 1642 and who inherited the title of Count-Duke of Olivares. His mother was his father's mistress, Isabel de Anversa, and he was initially named Julian. In 1626, Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares' daughter, the Marchioness of Heliche, and his favorite nephew both died. It was widely believed at court that Olivares' heir would be his remaining nephew, Luis de Haro, but in 1642, Olivares decided to legitimize his son, who was consequently re-christened Enrique Felipe de Guzmán.
