House Of Dana
Tabu by Dana is a women's fragrance created by French perfumer Jean Carles in 1931. Origins The House of Dana was a perfumery established in 1932 in Barcelona, Spain by lawyer Javier Serra. It was later headquartered in Paris. In 1940, it relocated to the US during the German occupation of France during World War II. Carles worked for Roure Bertrand, a company associated with fashion houses such as Nina Ricci (brand), Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, Elsa Schiaparelli and Cristóbal Balenciaga. Ingredients Carles used an exceptionally high dose of patchouli (10%), which he combined with clove (carnation), oak moss and benzoin (vanilla effect). Other notes include Bergamot, Neroli, Orange, Coriander, Narcissus, Clover, Rose, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Cedar, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Civet, Amber, Musk. Jean Carles
Jean Carles (12 January 1892 – 8 July 1966) was a French perfumer who worked in Roure Bertrand Fils et Justin Duppont in Grasse (now part of Givaudan) in the early 20th century. He was the founder of the Roure Perfumery School () and served as its first director in 1946. Jean Carles was also the mentor of many perfumers including Monique Schlienger and Jacques Polge. Despite becoming anosmic towards the end of his life, Carles created works such as ''Ma Griffe'' (''Carven'') and ''Miss Dior'' (''Christian Dior'') using only his memory of odours to guide him. His condition was only known to his son Marcel Carles, who assisted Jean by smelling and commenting on his creations. Due to this remarkable feat, Jean Carles is often compared to Beethoven who continued to compose music after becoming profoundly deaf. ''The Kreutzer Sonata'' is a 1901 oil painting on canvas by René-Xavier Prinet, inspired by Leo Tolstoy's 1889 novella of the same title, which was named after Beethoven's violin and piano composition dedicated to Rudolph Kreutzer. It depicts a female pianist, dressed in a golden gown, who is pulled up from her stool by a male violinist, who embraces her with one hand around her waist while they kiss.
