Hornet (roller Coaster)
Hornet is a family twister roller coaster located at Wonderland Park in Amarillo, Texas. It was previously enclosed and located at Six Flags AstroWorld, as well as at Boblo Island Amusement Park. History The ride originally debuted at Boblo Island Amusement Park as Nightmare. When that park closed, it was relocated to Six Flags AstroWorld and renamed Mayan Mindbender. The Mayan Mindbender was an indoor ride themed to a pyramid structure. Wonderland Park is an amusement park located in Thompson Memorial Park, Amarillo, Texas, United States. Park history The park was founded in 1951 by Paul and Alathea Roads. In 1969, several new rides were added that appealed to people of all ages, including a bumper car ride. The park is still run by the Roads family. It has been described by most of the Amarillo population the park is run down with a lot of rides not working and prices are not worth going. Twister Roller Coaster
A twister roller coaster is the generic name given to any roller coaster layout which tends to twist or interweave its track within itself several times. It is essentially the opposite of an out and back roller coaster, which is often a much simpler layout. Twister roller coasters often have the illusion of having small or tight clearances due to the track usually travelling through several support structures. This is known as a head chopper effect. Twister roller coasters were unheard of before the 1920s. John Miller is credited with inventing up-stop wheels and secure lap bar restraints, both which led roller coaster designers to create more extravagant and intertwined layouts. Lift Hill
A lift hill, or chain hill, is an upward-sloping section of track on a roller coaster on which the roller coaster train is mechanically lifted to an elevated point or peak in the track. Upon reaching the peak, the train is then propelled from the peak by gravity and is usually allowed to coast throughout the rest of the roller coaster ride's circuit on its own momentum, including most or all of the remaining uphill sections.
