Horn Of Africa Development Initiative
The Horn Of Africa Development Initiative (HODI) is a non-profit organisation based in Marsabit, Kenya. Founded by Fatuma Abdulkadir Adan in 2003, the organisation's mission is to champion justice and development in northern Kenya through advocacy, facilitation of education, community cohesion (through football), and livelihood support programs. History and structure HODI began in 2003 as a community based organisation in Marsabit, Kenya. The initial focus of the organisation was to address the inequality of access to legal services for the poor people of Marsabit. In 2007, HODI became registered as an NGO. As of November 2017, the HODI staff has grown to over 25 members. Marsabit
Marsabit is a town in the northern Marsabit County in Kenya. It is situated in the former Eastern Province and is almost surrounded by the Marsabit National Park. The town is located east of the centre of the East African Rift at an elevation of between 1300 and 1400 metres. It serves as the capital of Marsabit County, and lies South East of the Chalbi Desert in a forested area known for its volcanoes and crater lakes. Fatuma Abdulkadir Adan
Fatuma Abdulkadir Adan (born ) is a Kenyan lawyer and peace ambassador. She is a recipient of the Stuttgart Peace Prize. Life Adan was born to parents who were from two warring tribes in Marsabit, Northern Kenya. After her training as a lawyer, she returned to her hometown in order to promote peace between the conflicting Borana Oromo, Gabra and Rendille peoples. In 2003, she founded Horn of Africa Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization she uses to foster peace and advocate for education in Kenya. Through the Horn of Africa Development Initiative, Adan launched a programme called "Shoot to score, not to Kill", that uses soccer to engage Kenyan youths in advocacy for peace.
