Hopman Cup
The Hopman Cup is an international tennis tournament that plays mixed teams (one male and one female) on a country-by-country basis. It was first held in Perth, Western Australia each year from 1989 to 2019, played on indoor hardcourt, before being replaced on the calendar in 2020 by the now defunct ATP Cup, which was in turn replaced by the United Cup. The tournament was played in an eight-team format, with the exception for the years 1990-1995, with twelve teams competing. It returned in July 2023 in Nice, France, played on outdoor clay, with six teams invited to participate. In 2025, the Hopman Cup will take place in Bari, Puglia, Italy, from July 16 to 20 at the Fiera del Levante, continuing its tradition of showcasing top international mixed-team competition. Burswood Dome
The Dome at Crown Perth (originally the Burswood Superdome and formerly the Burswood Dome) was a multi-purpose indoor arena used for sports and entertainment. The dome was in size, with seating for 13,600 people. The whole arena was pressurised so that the fibreglass roof was suspended above the ground. It was a venue for indoor sports, notably the Hopman Cup tennis tournament from 1989 until 2012, which was moved to the Perth Arena for the 2013 and future events, and for music concerts. Association Of Tennis Professionals
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men's professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour. It was formed in September 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale to protect the interests of professional tennis players, and Drysdale became the first president. Since 1990 the association has organized the ATP Tour, the worldwide tennis tour for men and linked the title of the tour with the organization's name. It is the governing body of men's professional tennis. In 1990 the organization was called the ATP Tour, which was renamed in 2001 as just ATP and the tour being called ATP Tour. David Haggerty (born July 10, 1957) is an American tennis administrator who was elected President of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in September 2015. Haggerty was educated at the George Washington University School of Business on a tennis scholarship and graduated BBA. He worked as an executive at Prince Sports and Dunlop, then was chairman of Head U.S.A., part of the American-Austrian company which owns the American tennis racket brand Head. As of 2015, he was living in Pennington, New Jersey, but was planning to move to the United Kingdom, where the ITF is based. 2019 Hopman Cup
The Hopman Cup XXXI was the 31st edition of the Hopman Cup tournament between nations in men's and women's tennis and the final edition that took place at the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia. On 26 June 2018, the defending Swiss team of Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic and 2018 finalist German team of Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber were announced as the first teams for the 2019 tournament. On 15 August 2018, the teams of Greece and Spain were announced. For the first time in history, Roger Federer and Serena Williams faced each other in a competitive event. Federer came out victorious alongside Bencic in the mixed doubles rubber. Paul McNamee (born 12 November 1954) is an Australian former doubles world No. 1 tennis player and prominent sports administrator. Junior career In his hometown, McNamee won the boys' singles tournament at the 1973 Australian Open. Professional career McNamee is the only player to switch a grip as a professional, changing from a one-handed backhand to two-handed in 1979. Hawk-Eye is a computer vision system used to visually track the trajectory of a ball and display a profile of its statistically most likely path as a moving image. It is used in more than 20 major sports, including cricket, tennis, Gaelic football, badminton, hurling, rugby union, association football and volleyball. The Sony-owned Hawk-Eye system was developed in the United Kingdom by Paul Hawkins. The system was originally implemented in 2000 for television purposes in cricket. It works via the use of up to ten high-performance cameras, normally positioned on the underside of the stadium roof, which track the ball from different angles.
