Hoot Gibson
Edmund Richard "Hoot" Gibson (August 6, 1892 – August 23, 1962) was an American rodeo champion, film actor, film director, and producer. While acting and stunt work began as a sideline to Gibson's focus on rodeo, he successfully transitioned from silent films to become a leading performer in Hollywood's growing cowboy film industry. During the period between World War I and World War II, he was second only to cowboy film legend Tom Mix as a box office draw. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers, Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Robert Gibson (November 9, 1935October 2, 2020), nicknamed "Gibby" and "Hoot", was an American baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball who played his entire career for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1959 to 1975. Known for his fiercely competitive nature, Gibson tallied 251 Win–loss record (pitching), wins, 3,117 strikeouts, and a 2.91 earned run average. A nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All-Star and two-time World Series Champion, he won two Cy Young Awards and the 1968 National League (baseball), National League Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award, Most Valuable Player Award. Claude "Hoot" Gibson (born May 26, 1939) is an American former football player and coach. A defensive back and kick returner, he played college football for the NC State Wolfpack before playing professionally in the American Football League (AFL) for the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders. Playing career Gibson attended Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville, North Carolina. Gibson was an instant star on the NC State Wolfpack freshman team, as a defensive back, receiver, return man and halfback. For the next three seasons, Gibson rarely came out of a ballgame. TWA Flight 841 was a scheduled passenger flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, en route to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On the evening of April 4, 1979, while flying over Saginaw, Michigan, the Boeing 727-31 airliner began a sharp, uncommanded roll to the right, and subsequently went into a spiral dive. Ralph Duane "Hoot" Gibson (November 7, 1924 – January 2, 2009) was an American flying ace of the Korean War. He became the nation's third jet fighter ace with a total tally of five downed MiG-15 fighters. He also flew in the Vietnam War, and was a former lead pilot for the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. Early life Gibson was born in 1924, in Keensburg, Illinois and raised in Mt. Carmel. He entered United States Army Air Forces flight school in 1943 and graduated the next year.
