The Title of honor, Honorary Title "Honoured Inventor of the USSR" () was a state award of the Soviet Union established on 28 December 1981 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet No. 6277-X to recognise and reward innovations in technology. Its statute was later confirmed on 22 August 1988 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet No. 9441-XI. It ceased to be awarded following the December 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union and was replaced in 1992 by the Honorary Title "Honoured Inventor of the Russian Federation". Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov (; 15 June 1921 – 24 July 1992) was a Soviet physician, known for inventing the Ilizarov apparatus for lengthening limb bones and for the method of surgery named after him, the Ilizarov surgery. Life and work Ilizarov was born the eldest of six children to a poor Jewish family in Białowieża, Białystok Voivodeship, Republic of Poland. Aleksandr Davidovich Nadiradze ( ka, ალექსანდრე ნადირაძე, ; 2 September 1914 – 3 September 1987) was a Soviet engineer of Georgian ethnicity who was instrumental in militarization of the former Soviet space program. He designed various ballistics missiles, shells, and their delivery system, for which he is considered "father" of the mobile ICBMs, having created the RT-21 Temp 2S (SS-16), RSD-10 Pioneer (SS-20) and the RT-2PM Topol (SS-25). Honorary titles of the Russian Federation () are titles given to citizens of the Russian Federation for professional and/or social achievements, but can be revoked by a vote in the State Duma. Rejection of honorary titles cannot be vetoed by the President. The word translates as "Honoured".
