''Honkai'' is a video game franchise developed by miHoYo, published by miHoYo in mainland China and worldwide by Cognosphere (trading as HoYoverse). Initially led by Cai Haoyu, David Jiang took over as the series producer from 2017. The series originates with ''FlyMe2theMoon'', a paid mobile game for iOS released in 2011, which was developed by the five-person "miHoYo studio" startup team. The first installment of ''Honkai'' series was ''Houkai Gakuen'' released in 2012. The series has seen several more games since, with the most recent main entry being 2023's '' Honkai: Star Rail''. HOYO-MiX is a musical group and music studio under miHoYo, primarily responsible for producing songs and soundtracks for various miHoYo games, including the ''Honkai'' series, '' Tears of Themis'', and ''Genshin Impact''. ''Honkai: Star Rail'' is a 2023 free-to-play role-playing ''gacha'' video game developed and published by miHoYo (with publishing outside mainland China under Cognosphere, d/b/a HoYoverse). It is the fourth installment in the ''Honkai'' series, utilizing some characters from ''Honkai Impact 3rd'' and some gameplay elements from ''Genshin Impact''. The game features the main character, who is referred to as the Trailblazer, traveling across the universe through the Astral Express to help and connect the worlds while involved in resolving disasters caused by "Stellarons" and other third parties. The first closed beta test was launched on October 27, 2021. It was publicly released internationally on April 26, 2023 for Windows and mobile devices.
