Hong Kong Acid Attacks
The Mong Kok acid attacks (旺角高空投擲腐蝕性液體傷人案) were a series of acid attacks from 2008 to 2010 where plastic bottles filled with drain cleaner, a corrosive liquid, were thrown onto shoppers on Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Hong Kong, a pedestrian street and popular shopping area. Originally, a reward of HK$100,000 was offered for information about the perpetrator(s), but following the second incident it was raised to HK$300,000, and cameras were planned to be installed in the area. The third incident occurred the very day the cameras were turned on. Sai Yeung Choi Street
Sai Yeung Choi Street () are two streets in Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong, namely, Sai Yeung Choi Street South (西洋菜南街) and Sai Yeung Choi Street North (西洋菜北街). Although officially two streets, local people seldom make distinction between them. They are separated by the Mong Kok Police Station. Sai Yeung Choi Street South is a popular hotspot for shopping and a tourist attraction. History The streets were built on watercress cultivation in a village, Mong Kok Tsuen (旺角村), in Mong Kok in 1924, hence its name. As time went by, the village and fields were replaced by high-rise buildings. When the police station was built, the street was separated into two sections. Yau Tsim Mong District
Yau Tsim Mong District is one of 18 districts of Hong Kong, located on the western part of Kowloon Peninsula. It is the core urban area of Kowloon. The district has the second highest population density of all districts, at . The 2016 By-Census recorded the total population of Yau Tsim Mong District at 342,970. Paul Tse
Paul Tse Wai-chun, JP (, born 1959) is a Hong Kong solicitor, who claims himself as the "Superman of Law". He also owns a small travel agency and was elected to the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for the tourism functional constituency in the 2008 legislative election. Tse is of Hakka ancestry. Legal career Tse practised law as a barrister in Australia for seven years after graduating from University of New South Wales. Tse then finished his pupillage in Hong Kong under Justice Peter Nguyen. Tse was called to the bar in 1992 and set up his own firm in 1997. His media stunts and quest for self-publicity have caused controversy. Police Tactical Unit (Hong Kong)
The Police Tactical Unit (PTU; ) is a unit within the Hong Kong Police Force which provides an immediate manpower reserve for use in large-scale emergencies. Duties Unit companies are attached to all land Regions and are available for internal security, crowd control, anti-crime operations, disaster response and riot control throughout Hong Kong. The PTU is also the parent organization of the Special Duties Unit (SDU), which specializes in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue, and the Special Tactical Contingent (STC), which specializes in riot control drawing members from other units including the PTU Headquarters and SDU for temporary ad hoc tasks. Insecticide
Insecticides are pesticides used to kill insects. They include ovicides and larvicides used against insect eggs and larvae, respectively. The major use of insecticides is in agriculture, but they are also used in home and garden settings, industrial buildings, for vector control, and control of insect parasites of animals and humans. Bleach
Bleach is the generic name for any chemical product that is used industrially or domestically to remove color from (i.e. to whiten) fabric or fiber (in a process called bleaching) or to disinfect after cleaning. Tsuen Wan District
Tsuen Wan District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the New Territories and is served by the Tsuen Wan line of the MTR metro system. Its area is 60.7 km2. Its residents, who mostly live in Tsuen Wan Town, enjoy the highest income in the New Territories. Part of the Tsuen Wan New Town is located in the Tsuen Wan District. Tang King Shing () was the Commissioner of the Hong Kong Police force until 10 January 2011. Tang has been appointed as Chairman of the Country and Marine Parks Board for the period 1 September 2013 to 31 August 2015.
