CP24 is a Canadian English-language specialty news channel owned by Bell Media, a subsidiary of BCE Inc. and operated alongside the Bell-owned CTV Television Network's owned-and-operated television stations CFTO-DT (CTV Toronto) and CKVR-DT (CTV 2 Barrie). The channel broadcasts from 9 Channel Nine Court in the Toronto borough of Scarborough. It was first originally launched on March 30, 1998, under the name CablePulse24 by its owners CHUM Limited and Sun Media. The channel was named as an extension of CITY-TV (Citytv Toronto)'s newscasts, which were then known as ''CityPulse''. CHUM acquired Sun Media's interest in 2004 after acquiring the assets of Craig Media. In 2006, Bell Globemedia acquired CP24 and its parent CHUM Limited, but regulatory limits in media ownership forced CHUM to sell off the Citytv stations to avoid conflicts with CTV stations in the same markets. David Onley
David Charles Onley (June 12, 1950 – January 14, 2023) was a Canadian broadcaster and writer who served as the 28th lieutenant governor of Ontario from 2007 until 2014. Prior to his viceregal appointment, Onley was a television journalist. He worked primarily for Citytv as a weather reporter, before moving on to cover science and technology stories. Later on, he worked with the 24-hour news station CablePulse 24 as a news anchor and host of a weekly technology series, ''Home Page''. A published author, he was the founding president of the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Canada. His seven-year term as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario makes him the province's third longest-serving viceroy since Confederation, behind Albert Edward Matthews (1937–1946) and his successor Elizabeth Dowdeswell (2014–2023). Omar Sachedina (born August 21, 1982) is a Canadian journalist and news anchor for CTV News. He is currently serving as the chief anchor and senior editor for CTV's national evening newscast ''CTV National News'' since September 5, 2022. Previously, Sachedina served as the National Affairs Correspondent for CTV News. Early life and education Sachedina was born and raised in Vancouver to Ismaili Muslim parents who immigrated to Canada as Indians from Uganda. ''Webnation'' is a television show about technology that is aired on CP24 in Toronto, Canada. It features technology news, viral videos, reviews and trends. The program first aired on October 14, 2009, and replaces the talk television show ''HomePage''. The show is hosted weekly by New Media Specialist Amber MacArthur and CP24 Web Journalist Maurice Cacho. Citytv (sometimes shortened to City, which was the network's official branding from 2012 to 2018) is a Canadian television network owned by the Rogers Sports & Media subsidiary of Rogers Communications.
