Holy Trinity Church (Berat)
The Holy Trinity Church () is a medieval Byzantine-era Albanian Orthodox church which stands on a hill in the city of Berat in the Kalaja district of Southern Albania. One of the Historic Centres of Berat and Gjirokastër UNESCO World Heritage Site, the church has a cross shaped plan with a dome. It is composed of the nave, narthex (entrance area) and the altar alcove. In the church many Byzantine architecture features have been skilfully used such as the inner organization of the space and the decorative and illuminative systems. These features, together with the pyramidal shape, forms and proportions give the church a picturesque appearance. The Lutheran Trinity Church in East Melbourne, Australia, is a Lutheran heritage-listed church. It was built in 1874 and was added to the Victorian Heritage Register on 9 October 1974. The church is on Parliament Place, immediately to the south of St Patrick's Cathedral and east of Parliament House. Most church services are in German. History The first church, built in 1854, was replaced in 1874 by the existing structure. Half an acre of land () in East Melbourne was granted on 19 January 1853 for construction of a church. Donations, a government grant and a bank loan covered the cost; the foundation stone was laid on 27 September 1853 and the dedication of the completed church occurred on 11 June 1854. The Abbey of Sainte-Trinité (), better known as the Abbaye aux Dames (), is a former Benedictine nunnery in Caen, Normandy, now home to the Regional Council of Normandy. The complex includes the Church of Sainte-Trinité (the Holy Trinity). History The abbey was founded as a Benedictine nunnery in the late 11th century by William the Conqueror and his wife Matilda of Flanders as the ''Abbaye aux Dames'' ("Women's Abbey"), as was the ''Abbaye aux Hommes'' ("Men's Abbey"), more formally the Abbey of Saint-Étienne. The works began in 1062, starting from the rear, and were completed in 1130. Matilda, who died in 1083, was buried in the choir under a slab of black marble. The Holy Trinity Church (, , ) is a Finnish Orthodox Church located in the Kruununhaka district of Helsinki, on the corner of Unioninkatu and Rauhankatu. The church was built in the Neoclassical architecture, neo-classical style in 1826 under the direction of the architect Carl Ludvig Engel, and was dedicated and opened in the following year. The Holy Trinity services the city's orthodox community with Divine Liturgy held in both Church Slavic and Finnish language, Finnish. The church is Helsinki's oldest Orthodox church. When Finland became 1808 autonomic Grand Duchy of Finland, a number of Russian civil servants, merchants and soldiers moved to Helsinki. They needed a place for worship, and the czar supported their efforts to get a church. In the 21st century, many of the churchgoers still speak Russian, but majority of them are immigrants born in the Soviet Union. Church of the Holy Trinity () is a Roman Catholic parish church in Opočno in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. History The Church of the Holy Trinity in Opočno was built in its present form with three naves and groin vaults supported by 10 pillars in 1567. In that time the owner of Opočno Vilém Trčka of Lípa decided to rebuild his residence in Opočno Castle as well as the adjoining Chapel of St. Andrew. The Gothic chapel was extended and converted into a Renaissance church. Although the new church was built in the heyday of the Renaissance style in Bohemia, the ceiling of the church still resembles the older Gothic architecture. On the other hand, the stone galleries with embossed decorations inside the church provide evidence for a strong influence of Italian Renaissance architecture. The Church of the Holy Trinity () is a Roman Catholic church, Roman Catholic parish church in Fulnek, Czech Republic. Built in the 18th century, it is architecturally and culturally significant as one of the most valuable baroque buildings of northeast Moravia. It is situated on the site of the original parish church, whose existence was documented in the 13th century. The new church was constructed in response to a growing cult of devotion around the local portrait of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is believed by some that the portrait shed tears and that several people were miraculously cured after praying in front of the portrait. The architect of the church was Nikolaus Thalherr. Holy Trinity Church, Shanghai ( zh, t=上海聖三一堂, s=上海圣三一堂, p=Shànghǎi shèng sānyī táng), is a Protestant (and formerly Anglican) church in Huangpu District of Shanghai. The church, consecrated in 1869 was designed in a Gothic Revival style by British architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. After 1875, upon the appointment of Bishop William Russell as the first Church of England Bishop in the Diocese of North China, the church was commonly referred to as a cathedral, and the senior priest was known as the Dean. This cathedral designation was however mainly by way of common convention than fact as the titular bishop of the Anglican Communion located in Shanghai at the time was Channing Moore Williams of the Episcopal Church. Holy Trinity Anglican Church is a historic Carpenter Gothic style Anglican church building located on the banks of the Churchill River in Stanley Mission, a community in the Lac La Ronge First Nation and Lac La Ronge Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, Canada. History Designed by the Rev. Robert Hunt, an English missionary who founded Stanley Mission in 1851 with the permission of the Hudson's Bay Company, it was built between 1854 and 1860 by local Cree craftsmen using locally cut lumber as well as hardware and stained glass that Hunt had brought from England. The church was at one time the centre of an active missionary complex that included nearly 30 supporting buildings and a cemetery. It is currently the oldest standing building in Saskatchewan. Although not the seat of a bishop, it has been called a cathedral because of its massive size with a tall central nave and elaborate spire. Holy Trinity Anglican Church () is a large historic Carpenter Gothic style Anglican church building located at 173 Gosford Road (173, chemin Gosford) in the village of Maple Grove in Irlande, Quebec, near Thetford Mines in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. It was designed by noted Montreal architects Louis Auguste Amos and Alfred Arthur Cox of the firm Amos and Arthur and was built of wood between 1902 and 1904 by local craftsmen Its steep pitched roof and lancet windows are typical of Carpenter Gothic churches. Holy Trinity Anglican Church is a large historic Carpenter Gothic style Anglican church building located at 40986 Western Road ( PEI Route 2) in the unincorporated village of Alma, 4 miles north of Alberton, Prince Edward Island Canada. It was built of wood between 1888 and 1890 by local craftsmen Its steep pitched roof, lancet windows and entrance tower are typical of Carpenter Gothic churches. Its rear chancel has a separate roof line and appears to be an add on. The adjacent cemetery predates the church by one year. The Church of the Holy Trinity is an Anglican church located at Trinity Square in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History The modest Gothic Revival structure was built in 1847 by architect Henry Bowyer Lane, who also designed Little Trinity Anglican Church at 425 King Street East, and St. George the Martyr Church at 197 John Street (only the clock tower remains). The funds for its construction were a gift from Mary Lambert Swale of Settle, England. Swale had originally made the donation anonymously, but her name was eventually revealed. She had provided the gift with the stipulation that the church be open to the public, with no reserved pews. Other Torontonians assisted with the completion of this public project including Alexander Dixon who assisted with the project both financially and politically.
