5477 Holmes, provisional designation , is a Hungaria asteroid and binary system from the innermost regions of the asteroid belt, approximately in diameter. It was discovered on 27 October 1989, by American astronomer Eleanor Helin at the Palomar Observatory in California. The presumed E-type asteroid is likely spherical in shape and has a short rotation period of 2.99 hours. It was named for American amateur astronomer Robert Holmes. The discovery of its 1-kilometer-sized minor-planet moon was announced in November 2005. 17P/Holmes
Comet Holmes (official designation: 17P/Holmes) is a periodic comet in the Solar System, discovered by the British amateur astronomer Edwin Holmes on November 6, 1892. Although normally a very faint object, Holmes became notable during its October 2007 return when it temporarily brightened by a factor of a million, in what was the largest known outburst by a comet, and became visible to the naked eye. It also briefly became the largest object in the Solar System, as its coma (the thin dissipating dust ball around the comet) expanded to a diameter greater than that of the Sun (although its mass remained minuscule). Between 1857–2106 perihelion remains between 2.05–2.36 AU. The Demas Range () is a range about long that forms the lower east margin of the Berry Glacier in Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. The range trends north–south culminating in Mount Goorhigian, high. Location The Demas Range is northeast of the Ames Range and east of the Perry Range, from which it is separated by the Berry Glacier. It is west of the DeVicq Glacier. It extends north to the Getz Ice Shelf. Features, from north to south, include Holmes Bluff, Kennel Peak, Rockney Ridge, Mount Goorhigian and Kouperov Peak. Features further south, to the east of the Berry Glacier, include Shibuya Peak, Patton Bluff, Cousins Rock and Coleman Nunatak. Holmes Rock
Holmes Rock is rising to north of Greenwich Island and west of Aitcho group in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers. The feature is named after Captain Jeremiah Holmes, Master of the American sealing vessel ''Emeline'' that visited the South Shetlands in 1820-21 and operated from nearby Clothier Harbour. Location The rock is located west of Riksa Islands, west-northwest of Emeline Island, north-northeast of Stoker Island, east-southeast of Romeo Island, south by west of Table Island and southwest of Morris Rock. Holmes Island () is an island long, lying south of Vieugue Island in the Biscoe Islands of Antarctica. The Holmes Hills () are a group of ridges and nunataks rising to about between Runcorn Glacier and Beaumont Glacier, bounded to the southwest by the Brennecke Nunataks, in south-central Palmer Land, Antarctica.
