Hochsprung Mit Musik
The ''Hochsprung mit Musik'' () is an annual indoor high jump meeting which takes place in February in Arnstadt, Germany. First held in 1977, the meeting began as a competition between mainly East German athletes. Following the Re-unification of Germany in 1990, the competition became international and attracted athletes such as Olympic and World champion Charles Austin and Olympic silver medallist Alina Astafei. Both the world record holders (Javier Sotomayor and Stefka Kostadinova) have taken part in, and won, the meeting. The ''Hochsprung mit Musik'' gets its name from the fact that music is played in the ''Sporthalle am Jahn-sportpark'' while athletes take their jump. It is used as a way of both building suspense and mirroring the steady rhythm needed by athletes to achieve a high jump. Susanne Beyer
Susanne Beyer ( Helm, born 24 June 1961) is a retired East German high jumper. She won a bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships. Biography Born Susanne Helm in Suhl, she finished seventh at the 1983 World Championships and fourth at the 1986 European Championships. She began the 1987 season well with a win at the Hochsprung mit Musik meeting, taking the title with a leap of 2.00 m. She maintained her form indoors and won the silver medal at the 1987 World Indoor Championships with a lifetime best of 2.02 metres. Her season peaked with a bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships, scoring a lifetime outdoor best of 1.99 metres. At the European Indoor Championships she won the silver in 1985 and a bronze in 1987. She represented the sports team SC Dynamo Berlin and became East German champion in 1983, 1985 and 1987. Gerd Wessig (, ; born 16 July 1959 in Lübz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) is a former East German high jumper who won the gold medal in the 1980 Summer Olympics, the first man ever to set a world record in the high jump at the Olympics. Early life Wessig, a professional chef, trained with the SC Traktor Schwerin under trainer Bernd Jahn. He attended the John Brinckmann School in Goldberg. Wessig was 2.01 metres tall and, while he was competing, weighed 88 kilograms (6' 7", 194 lbs). Rosemarie "Rosi" Ackermann (; born 4 April 1952) is a German former high jumper, Olympic champion and multiple world record holder. In Berlin on 26 August 1977, she became the first female high jumper to clear a height of two metres. Biography She was born in Lohsa, Saxony. As Rosemarie Witschas, she represented East Germany in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, finishing seventh behind Ulrike Meyfarth. In 1974, at the European Championships in Rome, she won her first international title, setting a new world record of 1.95m. Later that year, she married handball player Manfred Ackermann, and assumed his surname. Two years later, when she won the gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Canada.
