Hlabisa
Hlabisa is a settlement in Umkhanyakude District Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The village lies between the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi game reserves, some 40 km north-west of Mtubatuba. It is named after the Hlabisa tribe of Zulus, and also known as kwaHlabisa. Neighbouring localities include Somkele (37 km); Nongoma (40 km); Kwamsane (43 km); Mtubatuba (47 km); Hluhluwe (48 km); Mahlabatini (50 km). In 2007, researchers studied local healthcare habits and how long it took people in Hlabisa sub-district to go to a hospital after they had been bitten by a snake. Big Five Hlabisa Municipality () is a local municipality within the uMkhanyakude District Municipality, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Mthokozisi Khathi (born 24 August 1976) popularly known as DJ Tira, is a South African DJ, record producer, and businessman. Early life Khathi was born in KwaHlabisa Village, KwaZulu-Natal, and his family relocated to Durban in 1979. Khathi attended Mlokothwa High School and enrolled at the University of Natal now known as UKZN in 1995, studying human resources. Career Khathi developed an interest in being a DJ while he was at university, when he started playing as a DJ in 1996. Around 2001, he released his first record named ''Real Makoya'', which is a compilation album with DJ Khabzela. In 2005, he was signed a record deal with Kalawa Jazzmee. Beauty Ngxongo
Beauty Batimbele Ngxongo (born 1953) is a South African master weaver of Zulu baskets. Her baskets have reached international fame. She lives in Hlabisa, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Biography Ngxongo wove doormats and table mats in her childhood. In the 1990s, a neighbor taught Ngxongo how to make intricate basket designs using local natural products (like grasses and Ilala palm leaves). A single Zulu basket that holds water take months to complete. By 2012, she employed 13 women to help her workshop. Finding buyers can be difficult as plastic containers are so easily available. However, she has collaborated with two contemporary designers to create what they call the Hlabisa Bench. The bench's shape channels the profiles of the hills of Hlabisa, the village where Ngxongo and her fellow workers live. Mbongeni Ngema (10 May 1955 – 27 December 2023) was a South African playwright, lyricist, composer, director, choreographer, and theatre producer, best known for co-writing the 1981 play '' Woza Albert!'' and co-writing (with Hugh Masekela) the 1988 musical '' Sarafina!''. He was known for plays that reflected the spirit of black South Africans under apartheid, and won much praise for his work, but was also the subject of several controversies.
