Hilton Als (born 1960) is an American writer and theater critic. He is a teaching professor at the University of California, Berkeley, an associate professor of writing at Columbia University and a staff writer and theater critic for ''The New Yorker''. He is a former staff writer for ''The Village Voice'' and former editor-at-large at '' Vibe'' magazine. In June 2020, Als was named an inaugural Presidential Visiting Scholar at Princeton University for the 2020–2021 academic year. Hilton McRae (born 28 December 1949) is a Scottish actor, working in theatre, television and film. Career McRae was part of the radical theatre group 7:84 before graduating from the University of Edinburgh, and by 1977 he had joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has concentrated mainly on avant-garde and political theatre. Hylton "Punch" Philipson (8 June 1866 in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England – at Hyde Park, London, England) was a cricketer who played first-class cricket for Oxford University between 1887 and 1889 and for Middlesex between 1895 and 1898. He played five Test matches for England between 1892 and 1895. Cricketing career Throughout his career, Philipson was competing for the wicket-keeper's spot in the English Test side with Gregor MacGregor, which resulted in him playing in only five Test matches for England, which he did on the 1891/92 and 1894/95 tours of Australia. He also toured India with George Vernon in 1889/90, though this tour did not include any Tests. Hylton Deon Ackerman
Hylton Deon Ackerman, also known as HD Ackerman, (born 14 February 1973) is a South African cricket commentator, coach, and former cricketer. He commentates for Supersport. He is currently also the head coach of the First XI and director at Guildford Grammar School in Perth, Western Australia. Ackerman has four Test appearances for South Africa all made in 1998. He made a gutsy 57 in his first Test innings but after that made little impact. It was thought that Ackerman had a weakness against top class spin as Mushtaq Ahmed and Muttiah Muralitharan were particularly successful against him in successive series. He joined Leicestershire in 2005 under the Kolpak ruling which allowed him to play for an English county without being registered as an overseas player. Hylton Michael Ackerman (28 April 1947 – 2 September 2009) was a South African first-class cricketer. He attended Dale College Boys' High School, where he was head boy. A hard-hitting left-hander who usually opened the batting, he made his first-class debut in 1963–64 for Border aged 16 whilst still at school. At 18 he was selected to play for South against North, a trial match for the following season's series against Australia, and scored 84; he twice played for a South African XI against the touring Australians in 1966–67 but was unable to break into the strong Test side. Mediocre form prevented his inclusion in the Test side against Australia in 1969–70. He was selected to tour Australia in 1971–72 but the tour was cancelled owing to anti-apartheid protests. Edward Hilton Young, 1st Baron Kennet (20 March 1879 – 11 July 1960) was a British politician and writer. Family and early life Young was the youngest son of Sir George Young, 3rd Baronet (see Young baronets), a noted classicist and charity commissioner. Sir George's paternal great-grandmother was Emily Baring of the eponymous merchant banking dynasty. Hilton Addison Wick (February 11, 1920 – March 17, 2006) was an American politician and Vermont Senator. Life Hilton Addison Wick was raised in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. After serving in World War II, he graduated from Maryville College and Harvard Law School, and in 1949 he moved to Vermont with his wife Barbara Shaw. He practiced law and became the President of the Chittenden Trust Co. He was a Trustee of Middlebury College from 1969 to 1984. His role as a community leader and charitable fundraiser helped to launch his political career. Hilton Lee Smith (February 27, 1907 – November 18, 1983) was an American right-handed pitcher in Negro league baseball. He pitched alongside Satchel Paige for the Kansas City Monarchs and Bismarck Churchills between 1932 and 1948. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Hilton Ruiz (May 29, 1952 – June 6, 2006) was an American jazz pianist in the Afro-Cuban jazz mold, but was also a talented bebop player. He was of Puerto Rican descent. Biography Born in New York City, Ruiz began playing piano at the age of five after being inspired by Duke Ellington. At the age of eight he performed Mozart at Carnegie Hall. In high school Ruiz studied jazz piano with Mary Lou Williams. In 1973 he was a sideman for Roland Kirk, then later for Clark Terry. He also worked with Betty Carter, Tito Puente, and Mongo Santamaría. He co-wrote a music instruction book, ''Jazz and How to Play It''.
