Hijas Del Sol
Hijas del Sol (Spanish: Daughters of the Sun), namely Piruchi Apo Botupá and Paloma Loribo Apo, are an aunt and niece duo from the island of Bioko in Equatorial Guinea who write, sing, and perform songs in both Bube and Spanish. Hijas del Sol's music has elements from both Hispanic and African music traditions, and as such it is very Equatoguinean. They first performed together in 1992 for a competition in ''el Centro Cultural Hispano Guineano'', where they won prizes for best original song and best choreography. This African traditional music competition was regarded as their musical breakthrough. That year they also performed for the first time in Spain at both the Expo de Sevilla and in the Festival de la OTI. Bubi People
The Bubi people (also known as Bobe, Voove, Ewota and Bantu Bubi) are a Bantu peoples, Bantu ethnic group of Central Africa who are indigenous to Bioko, Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. Once the majority group in the region, the population experienced a sharp decline due to war and disease during Portuguese expeditions. By the end of Spanish Guinea, Spanish colonial rule in the mid 20th century, and after substantial intermarriage with newly introduced populations, such as Afro-Cubans, Fernandino peoples, Krio people, Portuguese people and Spaniards, the Bubi people, again, experienced a great decline in number. Seventy-five percent perished due to tribal/clan rooted political genocide during a civil war that led to Spanish Guinea's independence from Spain. Jazz
