''High Speed'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by Herbert Blaché and starring Herbert Rawlinson, Carmelita Geraghty and Bert Roach.Munden p.349 Synopsis Hi Moreland attempts to win the hand of Marjory, the daughter of a bank president, in the face of stiff competition from a wealthy rival whom her father prefers. Eventually, he evades her father's wishes and beats his wealthy opponent to become her husband. Herbert Blaché
Herbert Blaché (5 October 1882 – 23 October 1953), born Herbert Reginald Gaston Blaché-Bolton was a British-born American film director, producer and screenwriter, born of a French father. He directed more than 50 films between 1912 and 1929. Biography Blaché was born in London, England. His father was a French hatmaker originally from Mont-de-Marsan, while his mother was an English actress, Elizabeth Bolton. In 1907 he married filmmaking pioneer Alice Guy, head of production with the French Gaumont Film Company. Their marriage meant that Alice had to resign from her position working with Gaumont. Jules Cowles (October 18, 1877 – May 22, 1943) was an American film actor.Munden p.193 He was also billed as J. D. Cowles and Julius D. Cowles. Biography Born in Farmington, Connecticut, Cowles attended Yale University and was a writer in addition to being an actor. Before he began acting in films, he performed in a Shakespearean repertory company with Augustin Daly for five years. Cowles died on May 22, 1943, in Hollywood, California, aged 65.
