Hide And Seek (1932 Cartoon)
''Hide and Seek'' is a 1932 Fleischer Studios Talkartoon animated short film starring Bimbo. Synopsis An unnamed woman (a human "flapper" character, in contrast to the rest of the cast, who are anthropomorphic animals) is making a withdrawal from a bank. She is eyed by the villain, "I. Grabber, Kidnapper" (he has business cards and a storefront sign labeling him). Bimbo is a policeman. The villain seizes the woman and heads off riding on a goat. Bimbo takes chase on a motorcycle. The chase goes up a volcano, which they fall in, descending into "Hell's Kitchen", where the Devil puts the villain and his goat into an oven, and Bimbo and the woman into an icebox. Bimbo and the woman are rescued by Bimbo's anthropomorphic motorcycle. They escape through a tunnel through the center of the Earth, emerging in China, where Bimbo and the woman get married. Dave Fleischer
Dave Fleischer (; July 14, 1894 – June 25, 1979) was an American film director and producer who co-owned Fleischer Studios with his older brother Max Fleischer. He was a native of New York City. Biography Early life and career Fleischer was the youngest of five brothers and grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, a poor Jewish neighbourhood. By the time he was born, his father had lost his means of livelihood due to the mass production of garments. Fleischer worked as an usher at the Palace Theater on Broadway, where he was exposed to vaudeville. This experience contributed to the development of his sense for gags and comic timing, which came into play when he joined forces with his older brother, Max in the production of animated cartoons. At one point, the family lived in Coney Island, and he became interested in being a clown for one of the sideshow amusements. "The Near Future" is a song written by Irving Berlin and performed in the ''Ziegfeld Follies of 1919''. It is better known for the small part of its lyric that took on a life of its own: "How Dry I Am". Origins The origins of the song and its components are somewhat obscure, as are the factors that differentiate "The Near Future" from "How Dry I Am". Melody The origin of the melody predates Berlin's song. The distinctive four-note motif was used by Ludwig van Beethoven in his Sonata, Op. 10 No. 3, published in 1798. The motif is also used in ''Oh Happy Day, ''the earliest known printing of which is in ''The Wesleyan Sacred Harp'' from Boston in 1855 (although the words to ''Oh Happy Day'' can be traced even further back to 1755). "Rock-a-bye baby on the tree top" (sometimes "Hush-a-bye baby on the tree top") is a nursery rhyme and lullaby. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 2768. Words The rhyme exists in several versions. "A Hot Time in the Old Town", also titled as "There'll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight", is an American popular music, American popular song, copyrighted and perhaps composed in 1896 by Theodore August Metz with lyrics by Joe Hayden. Metz was the band leader of the James McIntyre (theatrical actor), McIntyre and Heath Minstrels. Origins One history of the song reports: "While on tour with the McIntyre and Heath Minstrels, their train arrived at a place called 'Old Town'. From their train window, [Metz] could see a group of children starting a fire, near the tracks. One of the other minstrels remarked that 'there'll be a hot time in the old town tonight'.
