Heston Services
Heston services is a motorway service station on the M4 motorway in the London Borough of Hounslow, built on land that once formed part of the now defunct Heston Aerodrome. History It is owned by Moto. The 11-mile £19m Chiswick-Langley section of the M4 (London - South Wales Motorway) opened on Wednesday 24 March 1965, together with the Heathrow Airport spur. Planning Consulting engineers were Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, and it was built by Costain, with 16 acres on each side. The 11 miles of M4 from Chiswick to Langley were the first to be computer controlled from the police centre at Heston services, with digital motorway signs in March 1969, opened by Labour minister Richard Marsh, Baron Marsh. GEC received the £120,000 contract in March 1968, with 57 illuminated signs. Construction A contract was awarded in September 1966, with each side to have a 21,000 sq ft restaurant building. M4 Motorway
The M4, originally the London-South Wales Motorway, is the third longest motorway in the United Kingdom, running from west London to southwest Wales. The English section to the Severn Bridge was constructed between 1961 and 1971; the Welsh element was largely complete by 1980, though a non-motorway section around Briton Ferry bridge remained until 1993. On the opening of the Second Severn Crossing in 1996, the M4 was rerouted over it. The line of the motorway from London to Bristol runs closely in parallel with the A4 road (England), A4. A312 Road
The A312 is an A road in England, running across west London from Hampton to Harrow. Its status varies from a local urban street to a major dual carriageway in Hayes. Part the road has been diverted to make way for Heathrow Airport, while another stretch was originally planned to be Ringway 3, one of four major ring motorways around London. Route The road is part primary, part non-primary, which reflects its status as a mix of local and regionally important traffic. Cranford Countryside Park is a 144-acre public park in Cranford, London, Cranford, in the London Borough of Hillingdon, England. Situated in close proximity to Heathrow Airport, it is bordered by the M4 Motorway to the north, the A312 road, A312 trunk road to the east, and by the towns of Harlington, London, Harlington and Cranford, London, Cranford to the southwest and southeast respectively. Although Cranford is mostly within the London Borough of Hounslow, the park itself is in the London Borough of Hillingdon, as it straddles the southernmost point of this borough. M1 Motorway
The M1 motorway connects London to Leeds, where it joins the A1(M) motorway, A1(M) near Aberford, to connect to Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle. It was the first inter-urban motorway to be completed in the UK; the first motorway in the country was the Preston Bypass, which later became part of the M6 motorway, M6. London Gateway services is the southernmost motorway service station on the M1 motorway – between Junctions 2 and 4 – north of London, England. It is between Arkley and Edgware on the west side of the road, has a hotel, and, unusually, has an early ''give way'' on its northern approach. History It opened in 1969, run by Forte, and was opened as Scratchwood Services. Its main approaches are those built for an abortive junction 3 of the M1 for a spur (as at junction 2) to link to the A1.
