Duke Worne
Howard "Duke" Worne (December 14, 1888 – October 13, 1933) was an American film director, director and actor of the silent film, silent era. He directed more than 70 films between 1919 and 1931. He also appeared in 27 films between 1914 and 1928. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died in Los Angeles, California. In 1930, Worne married silent film actress Virginia Brown Faire, to whom he remained married until his death three years later in 1933. Barney Gilmore was an actor in the United States who appeared on stage and in films including starring roles. He appeared in the stage and screen versions of Howard Hall's '' Kidnapped in New York''. He had comedic and character actor roles. He worked for Solax Studios. He married Mina B. Long. Actress Lillian Gilmore was his daughter. Gilmore was arrested in 1903 for spitting in St. Louis Missouri. He was the first person arrested under a law that prohibited public spitting in the state. He was Irish. Rayart Pictures was one of the early film production and distribution companies operating independent of the major Hollywood studios in the United States during the later silent film era from the mid-to-late 1920s and into the early "talkies" era of early films with sound in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It established its own distribution network, specializing in westerns. It was started by W. Ray Johnston in 1924, after whom the company was named. It was originally created as a low budget release agent, and like the other so-called Poverty Row studios, was based in a small plot off Sunset Strip, by Gower Street. Lydia Yeamans Titus (12 December 1857 – 30 December 1929) was an Australian-born American singer, dancer, comedienne, and actress who had a lengthy career in vaudeville and cinema. She was remembered on stage for her "Baby-Talk" act and a popular rendition of the English ballad, " Sally in Our Alley". In appreciation, King Edward VII once presented Titus a gold bar pin with the opening notes of "Sally in Our Alley" etched in diamonds. Biography The brother of actor John Bunny, he began his career during the silent era and benefited from the name recognition of his famous brother—according to the film scholar Anthony Slide, his "silent career was based on exploitation of the family name".
